Very important! The Masquerade Jewelry Sale is Nov. 2-3. Notice that Nov. 2-3 are Monday and Tuesday, not Thursday and Friday. Next month’s column will be too late to remind you, so put it on your calendar and watch the Community Calendar. In case you’re a new reader, this is the sale where everything is $5. That makes bookkeeping very easy! They have more than jewelry (although there’s plenty of that), such as tote bags, scarves, hats, even dresses sometimes. As always, the money we raise from these sales goes to the Nursing Scholarship Fund.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Vote yes for Mabank ISD bond

A committee has been formed to identify all of the needs that MISD currently has. This committee will make recommendations on what will be addressed with new funds generated from the passing of the proposed $10 million bond on November 3rd. Car show in Athens

Come check out the car show and Farmer’s Market Saturday, Oct. 3, on the Athens City parking lot, one block north of the courthouse. Open until about 1 p.m. It is Police Appreciation Day.

Obituary: David Wayne Ellis

dad (2)Funeral services for David Wayne Ellis will be Saturday, Sept. 26 , 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Cross Roads, Texas with Bro. Frank Upchurch officiating.

David was born Nov. 7, 1961 in Carroll, Iowa to Donald Leroy and Laura Rose Ellis. He passed away on September 23, 2015 in Donie, TX.

He was an avid 42 domino player, and enjoyed playing horseshoes, hunting, and anything outdoors. He worked at the Wal Mart Distribution Center in Tucker, TX for 23 years. Continue reading “Obituary: David Wayne Ellis”
