Henderson County added to federal disaster list

downloadStorms have wreaked havoc all over the country recently. People are having to prepare for worse storms while also dealing with any damages their property might have suffered from the previous ones. Henderson County has been added to the federal disaster declaration of March 19, according to Henderson County Emergency Management Coordinator Joy Kimbrough.

The move was made by FEMA on Monday, April 4. Along with Henderson County, Limestone, Shelby and Tyler counties were added to the list.

Texans who suffered damage or losses as a result of the severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding that began on March 7, are encouraged to apply for assistance. Disaster assistance for homeowners and renters may include grants to help pay for temporary housing and essential home repairs, as well as other serious disaster-related needs, such as medical and dental expenses. CASA plans Super Hero 5K April 16

CASA of Trinity Valley is inviting area runners to lace up their sneakers in support of abused and neglected children.

CASA, which stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates, is hosting its annual superhero-themed 5K race and fundraiser at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 16, at the Cain Center, 915 S. Palestine St. in Athens. Attendees are invited to dress as their favorite superheroes for the event, which is the organization’s largest annual fundraiser.\

Facebook Boot Camp scheduled

Henderson County Now’s Michael V. Hannigan will be teaching a Facebook Boot Camp at the Cain Center. This class is aimed at beginners and Facebook users who want to learn more about how to optimize the popular social media platform.
