Back by popular demand, Just Once Piano and Guitar will be offered again by the TVCC Continuing Education department.

On Tuesday, April 15, Just Once Piano will be offered from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on the Athens campus. In just a few short hours, you will learn enough secrets of the trade to provide years of musical enjoyment. How can you do this? You will learn to use all the chords you will need to play any song in just one night. Any song, any style, any key. If you can find Middle C and know the meaning of Every Good Boy Does Fine, you already know enough to enroll in this workshop. Tuition is $54 and includes your material fee. You are of course welcome to bring along your own guitar. You may want to have a look at this guide to help you make the right choice: best acoustic guitars buying guide. Whether you’re a seasoned professional or a dedicated beginner, there are few guitar types that are as ideal as wide neck guitar. Not only do these guitars provide a type of flexibility that can’t be replicated with other models, but they can also be quite affordable depending on the situation. Many guitar players do not know how to schedule their practice in a way that brings them consistent results. In most cases, this is because they do not make a strong effort to find the most effective guitar practice methods. Instead, they create their own guitar practice routine and stick with it even if it is not helping them achieve the results they want. For example, most guitarists try to divide up practice time equally for every idea they want to practice. This approach consistently fails to bring big results in the long term because the guitarist is treating every practice item with equal importance. In reality, some of the things you practice will be more important than others and should take up more priority when you are scheduling guitar practice time. Another mistake that guitarists make during their guitar practice is that they spend a lot of time focusing on the guitar skills they WANT to practice rather than the guitar skills that they NEED to practice in order to achieve their musical goals. This causes their guitar playing skills to become imbalanced. As a result, their weak areas tend to hold back their ability to apply their well developed skills in musical situations.

On Monday, April 21, Just Once Guitar will be offered from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. If you have ever wanted to learn the guitar, but simply find it difficult to find the time? With this class, you can learn enough about playing the guitar to give you years of musical enjoyment. This crash course will teach you some basic chords and get you playing along with your favorite songs right away. Bring your acoustic guitar. Buying an instrument doesn’t have to be expensive, especially as a beginner. It can be as simple as checking out sites like shoppok to buy a second-hand guitar. As long as it works, that’s all that matters. Plus upgrading in the future is always an option. Tuition is $54 and includes your material fee.

Students can enroll at any campus or visit www.tvcc.edu/communityservices for a registration form. For more information, call 903-675-6212.

In just a matter of hours, the Lady Cardinals will step onto the floor the of the Bicentennial Center and attempt to go where no school as gone before.

The Lady Cardinals, playing in the NJCAA title game for a fourth straight year, will be looking for an unprecedented third straight national championship.

Since the NJCAA women’s national tournament began in 1975, just two schools have had a chance to pull off the trifecta — Panola in 1979 and the Lady Cardinals in 1999 — only to be denied. Now, the Lady Cardinals get another chance.

To make history, the No. 1-seeded Lady Cardinals (35-1) will have to take care of No. 3-seeded Hutchinson, which is the nation’s only undefeated team at 35-0. Game time is 7 p.m. after the 5 p.m. third-place game between Central Arizona and Chipola.

The Lady Cardinals, in their 19th national tournament, ran their record in the semifinals to 11-0 Friday night with an 82-63 win against Central Arizona. Hutchinson won its way to the title game, jumping out to a big lead and holding off Chipola for a 78-71 win.

Tonight’s title game will be rematch of the 2012 championship. The Lady Cardinals prevailed 69-55 in that one.

The Lady Cardinals are making their 11th appearance in the title game. They are 7-3 in the previous 10, winning titles in 1994, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2004, 2012 and 2013.

The Lady Cardinals bring a 28-game winning streak into the title game and have won 107 of their last 109 games (107 of 108 on the court).

Tonight’s game will be the last as a Lady Cardinal for sophomores Adut Bulgak, Roddricka Patton, Shlonte’ Allen, Dominique Brooks, Julianne Anchling, Kyhonta Doughty, Deborah Meeks and Coco Baker. Bulgak, Patton, Allen, Brooks, Anchling and Doughty are 71-2 (71-1 on the court) in their two years.

In case you’re wondering if the Lady Cardinals’ four straight title game appearances is a record, it is not. But they do hold the record, having played in six straight championship games from 1994-99.
