TVCC Theatre Department Opens Season With a Tall Tale

The Trinity Valley Community College Department of Theatre is preparing to open the season with a family-friendly play that will be as long on smiles as it is title words.

The department will officially kick off the 2014-15 production slate with “Johnny and Sally Ann: The True-Life Tall Tales of Johnny Appleseed and Sally Ann Thunder Ann Whirlwind.” Two private shows will be held for area elementary school students on Oct. 1-2, and a public performance is set for Friday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. at the TVCC Auditorium. Ticket prices are $2 for children and $5 for adults. TVCC students, faculty and staff will be admitted free with a school ID.

TVCC Theatre Director Craig Lee said he’s expecting more than 1,000 students to come to the campus to watch the show over its first two days. TVCC Wins Reserve Grand Champion

cattleThe Trinity Valley Community College Beef Cattle Show Team participated in the 2014 Four States Fair Livestock Show on September 15 in Texarkana, Ark.

The team took seven head of cattle to the show and participated in the Open Charolais Cattle Division. One of the team’s bulls won Reserve Grand Champion and one of TVCC’s two first-place awards. The other was in the Junior Heifer Calves class. Continue reading “TVCC Wins Reserve Grand Champion”

TVCC, Terrell ISD Partnering on Workforce Education Grant

Trinity Valley Community College has received notification that it has received a $375,000 Wagner-Peyser Grant from the Texas Workforce Commission. The award will facilitate TVCC’s partnership with the Terrell Independent School District to establish college courses and programs designed in the area of manufacturing.

Specifically, the TVCC-Terrell ISD partnership will target high school juniors and seniors (over age 14) and adult populations to acquire various manufacturing technologies. This will be the first time that college Career and Technical Education courses have been available to Terrell High School students from TVCC and the first time that Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) courses have been available to adult populations in Kaufman County.

Cardinal Cheerleaders to Hold Recruiting Clinic, Junior Cheer Day Practice

cheerTrinity Valley Community College’s nationally-acclaimed cheerleading squad is hosting two fun and instructional events this Sunday, Sept. 21.

The first event is a Cheerleader Recruiting Clinic for all high-school-aged individuals and older from 4-6 p.m. at the Cain Center. The event is aimed at anyone who might be interested in trying out for any college cheer team in the future.

Cost of the clinic is $25. Participants under 18 years old must complete a release waiver by an appropriate guardian.
