Wednesday night’s 97-53 win against Paris was the 100th TVCC coaching win for fourth-year head coach Kris Baumann. He is now 100-25 at the college and 270-145 overall. The No. 1-ranked Cardinals are now 23-1 overall and 13-0 in Region XIV Conference. They will be at home Saturday against Kilgore at 4 p.m. after a 2 p.m. women’s contest. (Courtesy photo)

TVCC Rodeo scheduled for Feb. 12-13

The Trinity Valley Community College Rodeo Team will host the 8th annual Southern Region National Intercollegiate Rodeo Feb. 12 and 13 at the Henderson County Fair Park Complex. Teams from 20 colleges and universities totaling about 400 contestants will compete in team and individual events for the chance to advance to the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming in June. Friday night’s performance will feature a concert by Justin Todd Herod and a Calf Scramble for kids will be held during each performance.

General admission is $5 or free with a current TVCC ID. Advance tickets are available in Athens at Lone Star Western Wear or at the gate. All proceeds support the TVCC Rodeo Team.

Lady Cardinal softball team opens season Friday

The eighth season of spring softball at Trinity Valley Community College is at hand.

The Lady Cardinals are scheduled to open the 2016 season Friday with a doubleheader against Hill College. The first game of the twinbill in Hillsboro is set to begin at 1 p.m.

Though her squad is trying to overcome an outbreak of injuries, Ashley Johnston, the only coach in the program’s history, is ready to get started and excited about the potential she sees with her team.

Christalah Lyons receives First Budke-Serna Scholarship

Trinity Valley Lady Cardinals freshman Christalah Lyons from Dallas received the first Kurt Budke and Miranda Serna Lady Cardinal Scholarship Wednesday night in ceremonies held at halftime of the men’s basketball game in Cardinal Gym.

TVCC Foundation Board Chairman Steve Grant said, “The Budke-Serna Scholarship was created to provide a scholarship to a member of the Lady Cardinal team who exhibits exceptional character, commitment and dedication to the team in all phases.”

TVCC again named a top college by Aspen Institute

Highlighting the critical importance of improving student success in America’s community colleges, the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program recently named Trinity Valley Community College as one of the nation’s top 150 community colleges eligible to compete for the 2017 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence and $1 million dollars in prize funds, as well as Siemens Technical Scholars Program student scholarships.
