TVCC President Glendon Forgey suspended

The Trinity Valley Community College Board of Trustees suspended President Glendon Forgey with pay Monday evening pending an investigation into his contract.

While the board didn’t verbalized the exact charges against Forgey, the president and the board are at odds over the length of his contract.

Details were sketchy Monday night, but the board did not announce who would be in charge of the college during Forgey’s suspension.

TVCC Spring Art Auction and Show set for April 26-May 1

Trinity Valley Community College Art Department announces the Student Art Auction and Show to be held on the Athens campus. The show runs Monday through Sunday in the Ginger Murchison Learning Resource Center lower and upper lobbies during regular hours weekdays, 1-5 p.m. Saturday and 2-5 p.m. Sunday.

“As always, I have had fantastic students and I can’t wait to show them off,” said instructor September Kirk. Bidding for the auction will open at 10 a.m. Monday the 26 and close at 3 p.m. Tuesday the 27. Proceeds from the sale support the art department. The public is invited to attend and bid on the auction pieces.

TVCC offers nursing course in Canton

Certified Nurse Aides are in high demand, and for those interested in beginning a medical career, CNA training is a great way to jump start your career. Trinity Valley Community College Continuing and Workforce Education department announces a summer CNA course to be held in Canton. The course will be held at Crossroads Church, 1930 S. Trade Days Blvd., beginning with orientation on May 10. Those who pass the course are eligible to participate in the state of Texas Certification exam.

Celebration scheduled for TVCC cheerleaders

CELEBRATING 10 GRAND

It’s time to cheer the cheerleaders at Trinity Valley Community College.

A celebration – “Celebrating 10 and Grand” — is scheduled Tuesday, April 19, at 5:30 p.m. at Cardinal Gym.

Cardinal cheerleaders captured their 10th NCA title last week in Daytona Beach, Fla. They also were named Grand Champion, having posted the highest score for all divisions in the finals. Cardinal cheerleaders T.J. Ollison and Sabrina Garcia won the Partner Stunt competition for all divisions.

TVCC previously captured NCA titles in 1989, ’90, ’91, ’93, ’96, 2001, ’02, ’05 and ’08.

The public is invited to attend.

TVCC PTK chapter wins at national convention

Trinity Valley Community College’s Iota Alpha chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the national honor society for two-year colleges, brought home several honors from the annual “Nerd Nation” conference held recently in National Harbor, MD.

The chapter received the Distinguished Honors in Action Project Award, one of only three Distinguished Honors in Action Theme Awards, Distinguished 5-Star Chapter and second finalist to the Most Distinguished Chapter, ranking them third out of 1,285 chapters in the U.S. and nine other countries. Nancy Long was also honored for being one of the two longest-serving chapter advisors.
