Fall Hunter Rendezvous

The 2013 Fall Hunter Rendezvous is just a week away.

The event will be at the Texas Freshwater Fishery Center next Tuesday, Oct. 22, starting at 5 p.m.

Admission is free and there will be door prizes. Also $10 raffle tickets for a Remington Versa Maz, Semi-Auto, 12ga., Camo or Remington 700 CDL, Bolt 243, Santin Walnut. $10 each or six-for $50. Drawing to be held Oct. 22. Winner need not be present to be eligible.

Football Wrapup, Oct. 11

ATHENS: The No. 22-ranked Athens Hornets are now the county’s only unbeaten team at 6-0 after dropping Canton, 50-26. Next up for the Hornets is Van on the road.

BROWNSBORO: The Bears fell to Mabank at home, 17-6. Brownsboro is now 2-4 on the year.

CROSS ROADS: Cross Roads picked up its second win of the year (2-4), dropping Dallas Gateway, 34-16.

EUSTACE: Eustace fell to 3-4 on the year after losing to Quitman, 21-0.

MABANK: The Panthers traveled to Brownsboro and came away with a 17-6 win. Mabank is now 2-4.

MALAKOFF: The Tigers suffered their first loss of the year, falling to Lone Oak, 45-27.

ACPA: Athens Christian Preparatory Academy (0-7) took on Fort Worth Thesa but came up short, 59-13.

TRINIDAD WILL PLAY PENELOPE AT HOME TOMORROW, 7:30 P.M., FOR HOMECOMING.

Hornets move up in state rankings

HornetThe Athens Hornets were idle last week, but that didn’t stop them from moving up two spots to No. 22 in the Texas Football state rankings for this week. The Hornets are 5-0 on the year and scheduled to face Canton on the road Friday night to start district action.

Christy Turner of Cross Roads recently went on an exciting dove hunting trip at Paloma Pachanga Ranch in Hondo, Texas. She was invited on this trip by Prois (pronounced ‘Pro-iss’), a women’s hunting and athletic technical shooting clothing line based out of Gunnison Colorado.

Christy has been on the Prois Event Staff for the past year and has enjoyed meeting other ladies with her same passion throughout the country. Christy will be setting up a Prois vendor’s booth at the Henderson County Wildlife Committee’s Fall Hunters Rendezvous in two weeks.
