The winning bidder of the Trinity Valley Community College Play4Kay coaching promotion selected Linda Land (pictured at center), an employee in the Office of Institutional Advancement, to serve as honorary assistant coach during last night’s Lady Cardinal game against Paris. She sat on the bench with the Lady Cards and assist head coach Elena Lovato (left) and assistant coach Gerald Ewing. The winning bid of $750 was added to funds raised for the annual Play4Kay event, which aims to raise funds for breast cancer research.
TVCC sophomore guard Shlonte’ Allen broke a school record that had stood for more than a quarter century when she scored 52 points in the team’s win over Panola Wednesday evening at Cardinal Gym. Allen’s record-setting night topped the previous record of 50 in a single game set by Cardinal Hall of Famer Portia Hill in 1988. Allen is seen in this photo signing the ball of a young Lady Cardinal fan moments after the record-setting performance.
Congratulations to Malakoff High School’s Damontes Dowell on signing to play football for the Trinity Valley Cardinals.
Dowell has been an outstanding running back for the MHS TIgers and this year was named to the 63rd Annual Collin Street Bakery/Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 2A All-State Football Team.
TVCC head football coach Brad Smiley said, “He has decided this is where he wants to be to start his career and we are excited to have him. He’s a very talented player, and will add a lot to our program.”
