Eustace cross country teams headed to state

Both the boys and girls cross country teams are headed to state after their performance at Regionals today.

The boys were Regional champions, with Ericsen Gudjohnsen leading the way in 3rd place.

The girls finished second at the meet, with Chanda Westbrook the top finisher in 7th place.

Before Friday’s game, the Athens Hornet volleyball girls presented a gift to young Estela Sanchez who is battling leukemia. Estela is a pre-K student at Central Athens Elementary, and the team wanted to encourage her in her brave battle against the disease. Members of Hornet Nation look after one another. Cards, Lady Cards picked to finish at the top

Both Trinity Valley Community College basketball teams were picked to finish first by conference coaches, according to the poll released today at the Region XIV Media Tipoff. The media availability was held at TVCC.

The Lady Cardinals were picked to finish ahead of Tyler and Blinn in the women’s conference. The Cardinals were picked to finish at the top of the East Zone and earned more first place votes than San Jacinto, which was picked to win the South Zone.

On the field or in the classroom, Derrick Willies is a leader for the football team at Trinity Valley Community College.

The 6-4, 205-pound wide receiver for the SWJCFC-leading Cardinals was named the college’s Outstanding Student-Athlete of the month Monday afternoon at the Cardinal Pride Luncheon at Tilo’s Cuisine and Bakery.
