TVCC dropped a conference home game Saturday night and fell to 1-2 on the season.

The Tyler Apaches (1-2) rolled to a 37-24 win over the Cardinals behind the power of their running game, gaining more than 300 yards on the night and rushing for three touchdowns.

EUSTACE — I have covered some strange football in my time, but Friday night’s game in Eustace was one for the books. It included two lightning delays before finally ending in the second quarter at 9:49 p.m.

But that was just the start of the curious turns the night took.

For the record, the game was called at 11:27 of the second quarter with Winona leading Eustace, 28-14. Don’t let the score fool you, the Bulldogs had shown the ability to move up and down the field and the game was very much in doubt when interrupted.

Here are my 10 Observations from the sidelines.

— TOP TAKEAWAY: You may outscore the Bulldogs, but you aren’t going to play any harder. Eustace brought it on every play and scratched and clawed for every extra yard it could get. Impressive effort.

Brownsboro beat Athens, 42-29, in Friday night’s season opener that was marred by mistakes, penalties and turnovers from both teams.

The win sends the Highway 31 Champions trophy east to reside in Brownsboro until the next time the two teams face off.

Here are 12 observations from the the game.

— It’s hard to really get the rivalry vibe going for the first game of the season. It seems to take the fans a couple of weeks to really get into the swing of things. But the folks from Brownsboro and Athens did a pretty good job Friday night with a nice crowd showing up to kick off the season.

10 Observations from TVCC’s 56-43 loss to Snow College

Colt Atkinson, QT Barker, Dr. King and a bunch of crazy plays in this edition of 10 Observations.

Here are 10 observations from TVCC’s 56-43 loss to Snow College in the Battle in the Valley Saturday night at Bruce Field.

— There was a long line at the ticket booth as I walked into Bruce Field 45 minutes before kickoff, and I mean a looong line. A great crowd showed up for the game including a suprising number of Badger fans on the visitor side. Surprising because Snow College is from Utah.

— Any time you lose by double digits, including falling behind 24-0 in the first half, you can bet the coaches are going to have plenty of concerns. In fact, I am glad I wasn’t in the room when the TVCC coaches broke down the video. One thing they don’t have to worry about is the team’s heart. The Cardinals were able to cut the lead to just one touchdown with 10 minutes left in the game, but the deficit was too much to overcome. They never gave up, however, and fought to the very end.
