Lady Cards extend Cardinal Gym win streak to 71 games

A 2-0 sweep in the 4th annual Budke/Serna Thanksgiving Classic has extended the Trinity Valley Community College Lady Cards’ home win streak to 71 games.

The Lady Cards, now 7-1, rolled to a 73-45 win against Hill College Saturday afternoon to complete the sweep. The Lady Cards were a 76-31 winner against Arkansas Baptist College Friday night.

LaPoynor girls top Martin’s Mill, 55-41

MARTIN’S MILL — The LaPoynor and Martin’s Mill girls were tied 35-35 midway through the fourth quarter Tuesday night before the Lady Flyers pulled away to beat the defending state champion Lady Mustangs, 55-41. LaPoynor was led by sophomore Teaire Hambrick with 23 points.

The second-ranked Trinity Valley Community College Lady Cardinals posted a 2-1 mark in the annual WNIT Tournament at Midland College over the weekend, claiming a third-place finish with a 75-61 win against Iowa Western.

Second-year head coach Gerald Ewing’s Lady Cardinals (4-1) are scheduled to be on the road again Tuesday, going to Brenham to take on Blinn in their conference opener. Action tips off at 5:30 p.m.

Cards overcome slow start, beat Angelina

Almost seven minutes into their Region XIV Conference opener at home Saturday afternoon against Angelina College, things did not look good for the Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals. They trailed 24-7, having spotted the Roadrunners an early 11-0 advantage.

But the view was a lot better by game’s end with fourth-year head coach Kris Baumann’s 11th-ranked Cardinals owning a 100-82 win.
