In the wake of what some may call “Domestic Terrorism or a Hate Crime,” the African Methodist Episcopal Church will stand strong in its FAITH.

This was not more evident on Saturday, June 20, in Houston, Texas at St. Paul AME Church where Rev. Roderick Dawson serves as Pastor.

Rev. Dawson stated, “with a rich history and great legacy of the African Methodist Episcopal Church still stands a vital institution that revolutionizes society and transforms lives. With this project, “The AME Churches of Texas” it gives us a glimpse of the works and efforts of each congregation in Texas. With much dedication over 200 ministries have had a profound impact on Texas for nearly 150 years and I believe the future looks better. My prayer is that you are tremendously blessed as I am to be (1.) a Christian and (2.) an A. M. E.” Continue reading “The AME Churches of Texas Standing Strong”

Tammy Whitehurst

The ladies of Cross Roads Baptist Church are hosting their 13th Annual Women’s Conference on April 5. The theme this year is “Celebrating Joy,” and is centered around 1 Thessalonians 2:20: “For ye are our glory and joy.”

The conference has become a traditional day of celebration among Christian women of all denominations. Tammy Whitehurst will be the keynote speaker for both morning and afternoon sessions. She is the founder of “Joy for the Journey” and shares the gift of laughter and encouragement. In addition to the speaker and testimonials, there will be wonderful music provided by “The Pearl Girls” and “Heaven Bound,” both local groups and various in-house talent.

The famous “Cross Roads Cooks,” headed by Bro. Frank Upchurch, will be brewing up recipes for the continental breakfast and hot-off-the-cooker lunch. The youth of the church will have a hand in helping serve both meals.

Christian vendors will set up for shopping before and after the conference and during breaks. Most of the goods for sale are handcrafted and some have been donated for door prizes. Many door prizes will be given throughout the day with three grand door prizes being given at the end of the conference.

Registration and breakfast will be from 7:15-8:15 a.m. The cost is $12 (less than it was last year). The conference will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. The afternoon session will begin around 1 p.m. and close around 3:30 p.m.

Reba Bailey is from Eustace and is the founder of Sophia’s Journey, a non profit organization which is working to help provide Christian education in foreign countries by raising awareness, funds, and student sponsors across the globe.

Sophie’s Journey is holding a New Year’s Eve Worship Event on Dec. 31 to help raise money for its current school, Kingstar School in Kigamboni, Tanzania.

“My goal and prayer is to raise enough money to sponsor one child for a whole year, which is estimated at $1,000,” Bailey wrote to HCN.

There is no charge to come to the New Year’s Eve event, but there will be food you can purchase as well as a love offering taken every hour. The event starts at 6 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m, and will be held at First Baptist Church Eustace.
