Woman Arrested For Outstanding Warrants, Bail Jumping, Evading Arrest

On March 31, at approximately 8:45 a.m., Henderson County Narcotics Investigator Kendell Wellman attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle for traffic violations on Hwy 59 outside Athens. The vehicle pulled to the right of the roadway and stopped then sped away. Investigator Wellman pursued the vehicle which turned south on Hwy 19. The suspect vehicle damaged both passenger side tires while attempting to elude law enforcement. On Hwy 19 south of Loop 7 the suspect vehicle lost control and came to rest in front of Grace Community Church. Investigator Wellman apprehended the driver of the vehicle who was identified as Charity Miley. Miley had outstanding warrants for possession of a controlled substance, bail jumping and assault causing bodily injury. Miley was arrested for her outstanding warrants and charged with evading arrest / detention with a vehicle. Miley was transported to the Henderson County Jail where she remains with bonds totaling $59,500. A female passenger was identified and released from the scene with no charges pending.

Traffic Stop Leads to Two Arrests

On March 30, Henderson County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Brad Beddingfield initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Curtis Dowdle for a traffic violation. During the stop, Beddingfield identified a passenger in the vehicle as Dwight Stevens.

Henderson County Communications advised that Curtis Dowdle currently had a suspended Texas Driver’s License – had previously been convicted for Driving While License Invalid. Continue reading “Traffic Stop Leads to Two Arrests”

Identity Theft Investigation Ends in Three Arrests

A two-month long investigation into an identity theft and forgery ring resulted in the arrest of three people last Thursday in eastern Henderson County.

On February 10, 2015, an Athens resident reported to the Athens Police Department that their checking account had been compromised and someone had made several transactions without their consent. One of the transactions had taken place in Terrell, Texas. The initial report was soon followed by two other residents who were victims of similar crimes.

HCSO Arrests Man In Connection With Mabank Burglary

On Sunday, March 29, 2015 Henderson County Sheriff’s Office Deputy R. Yockey was dispatched to the Mabank area in reference to a reported burglary. The victim told Yockey an unknown person had stolen his riding lawnmower and a television. Once Yockey took the offense report he was notified of some suspicious activity in the Bonita Point area near Gun Barrel City. Yockey responded and made contact with Donny Haller. During the investigation Deputy Yockey was able to recover the reported stolen lawnmower which was in Haller’s possession.

Yockey contacted HCSO Investigator Cayce Hampton who responded to the scene to assist. Haller was placed under arrest for Theft of Property over $1,500 under $20,000, which is a State Jail Felony. During the investigation it was made known there was a second suspect; further arrests are expected to be made.

County Conducts Sex Offender Compliance Check

On March 19, the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office conducted a check of sex offenders who are registered in the unincorporated areas of Henderson County. There are a total of 167 offenders registered within the Sheriff’s Office area of responsibility. A number of those are currently incarcerated and/or are registered to two homes (ie: weekend homes).
