On Thursday, May 21, at 12:30 p.m. the Henderson County Peace Officers Association will be hosting its annual Peace Officers Memorial on the west side of the Courthouse in Athens. This memorial ceremony will be honoring all fallen officers who have been killed in the line of duty in Henderson County. The guest speaker will be the Honorable 3rd District Judge Mark Calhoun.

The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office and Malakoff Police Department are currently seeking Keonte Davion Ross and Terrance Deonte Scott (AKA: “T”) for outstanding aggravated robbery warrants. Malakoff PD has indicated that both subjects are also persons of interest in other robberies in Malakoff. Ross is described as a black male, approximately 6′ tall and weighing approximately 200 pounds. Scott is described as a black male, approximately 5’9″ tall and weighing approximately 170 pounds. Scott is also sought for questioning in a robbery in which a vehicle was shot near Athens.

On Saturday, April 25 at approximately 12:30 a.m. Deputy Huckabee conducted a traffic stop on a blue Ford Ranger in the parking lot of McDonald’s in Gun Barrel City. While making contact with the passenger, identified as Kiara Bruffy, and the operator, identified as Justin Hunt, Deputy Huckabee observed a clear plastic baggie containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana in plain open view sitting in the ashtray of the truck. After conducting a search of Justin’s pockets, Huckabee located an amount of suspected methamphetamines and more marijuana.
Justin Wayne Hunt was placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance<1gr, possession of Marijuana<2oz, no valid drivers license, an outstanding warrant out of Kaufman County, an outstanding warrant out of Balch Springs and four outstanding warrants out of Payne Springs Police Department. Kiara was placed under arrest for possession of marijuana<2oz, illegal dumping < 5LBS and an outstanding warrant out of Mesquite Police Department for assault.
An East Cedar Creek Fresh Water Supply District customer informed the District’s Office that some individuals are knocking on doors pretending to be with the water company. The impostors told the resident that they were present to turn off the water due to late payment. If the amount presented to the resident was paid immediately they would take the money and not turn off the water.

On Friday morning, Kelly Bryan Ivy (45, formerly of Malakoff) plead to 20 years incarceration in the Institutional Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Ivy plead no contest to Possession of a Controlled Substance. The plea took place in the 173rd Judicial District Court with Judge Dan Moore presiding.
Assistant District Attorney Justin Weiner prosecuted the case on behalf of Scott McKee’s District Attorney’s Office.
Weiner said, “This sentence is both equally fair and severe. Mr. Ivy’s previous criminal convictions and trips to prison allowed us to enhance the range of punishment in this case.
