Turner Participates in ‘A Girls Hunt Out’

hog hunt

Christy Turner from Cross Roads just returned from, “A Girls Hunt Out” 2014 Texas Hog Hunt. It was located here in East Texas near Oakwood on a private ranch. Turner was one of nine women attending the Hog Hunt. Some of the ladies traveled as far as Illinois, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, and Oklahoma to participate in this event they called, Girls “Bringing Home the Bacon.” Turner has been traveling and participating in these “Women Only” hunts for the past four years. The camaraderie and friendships that are made on these hunts are like none other she says. The spirit of each one of these hunts Turner has participated in has been a group of women who meet for the first time empowering and supporting one another. You will have all different levels from first time hunters to professional hunters with their own outdoor TV shows. Everyone has always been so willing to help, encourage, and celebrate with one other.

Turner enjoys encouraging women and the youth to get involved in the outdoors. She is the Chairman for the Henderson County Wildlife Committee. The Committee is to provide education in wildlife and natural resources for both the adult and youth of Henderson County. Turner is also the Club Manager for the Henderson County 4-H Clover Kids. Krystal Setting A Great Example

HattonKrystal Hatton will turn 11 on March 21 and is turning her birthday into a donation party for animals. Instead of gifts, she wants all her guests to bring dog food, tonkinese cat food, treats, etc. so that she can donate them to veterinarian offices and the Humane Society. Her mother says Krystal wants to be a veterinarian when she grows up and has been volunteering at Morton’s Small Animal Clinic in Athens. “I am very proud of her. She has already started doing something with her life,” said mom.

LETTER: Please Slow Down Going By An Accident

By Sheila Bolin Browning … ((Editor’s Note: Sheila is a nurse))

I worked an accident in Chandler this week. A lady pulled out of the Pops Chicken Place into oncoming traffic and was t-boned in the driver side of her vehicle by a pick up going about 60 miles an hour. Her left side took the full force of the impact. She was complaining of left-sided rib, neck and back pain and the left side of her face was bruised and swelling. But she was alert and oriented and did not lose consciousness. Obviously, when someone mentions back pain after an accident like this, you instantly fear the worse. All of a sudden, it becomes so evident why disability insurance is such a good idea. After everything was sorted at the accident, I couldn’t help but think about disability insurance further, although I was wondering how long does long term disability insurance last? I have lots of questions about it, so I’m going to take some time to research it further. You never know what’s around the corner, or in this case, coming out of Pops Chicken Place.

Back pain treatments include analgesics, to reduce inflammation, to restoring proper mobility and strength to the back, by a variety of back pain products and therapies, to strategies for the avoidance of recurrence of the injury.

Thankfully, the people in the truck walked away with no injuries. Soon as all the firefighters and paramedics showed up, I left. She was in good hands. This is the second accident I helped at in Chandler and no police ever showed up. Traffic control is needed badly.

Can I just say, for Pete’s sake, slow your butts down on a 4-lane highway when you see wrecked cars all over the road and victims on the ground. People were driving so fast around the accident that debris was literally being blown 6 feet in the air and 10 feet across the road. Scared the holy crap out of me. Not a fear you need when kneeling down on the ground stabilizing a victim’s neck. Come on people. No reason for that. SLOW DOWN!

The First Baby of 2014

First baby web

By Toni Garrard Clay

On New Year’s Eve night, Amber Baker and her partner, Ryan Miller, sat around a bonfire with family to see the new year in. They turned in around 2 a.m., and when Amber woke the next morning, she realized she was in labor.

“They had been saying the night before, ‘You’re gonna have this baby.’ And I said, ‘No, no, no.’ Then it happened.”

Though she wasn’t due until Jan. 15, Emma Marie Miller was the first baby born at ETMC Athens in 2014. She arrived at 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 1, weighing 6 pounds, 13 ounces and 20-and-a-half inches long.

“She’s a pretty baby,” said Amber only a few hours after the delivery. Emma is her first child. “It happened so fast, I haven’t really wrapped my head around it.” Continue reading “The First Baby of 2014”
