Obituary: Imogene (Jean) Fowler

Jean Fowler of Murchison (most recently a resident of Austin) passed away Wednesday morning at her home in Austin with her family at her bedside.

A celebration of life service in her honor will be held Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Murchison. Officiating will be Jody Fowler, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Webb City, MO, and Curtis Chandler, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Murchison.

Obituary: Lola Anita Shelton Welch

welchlolaServices for Lola Anita Shelton Welch are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19, 2015 at Carroll- Lehr Funeral Chapel with Rev. Frank Upchurch officiating. Interment will follow in Becks Chapel Cemetery.

Lola passed peacefully into eternity Oct. 15, 2015 surrounded by her loving family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert E. Welch, her parents George W. And Viola Boyd Shelton, her sister Jimmie Lou Bevel and husband John Henry Bevel, Jr., nephew Larry Harvey, grand-nephew Wesley Harvey, uncles George Amos Boyd and William J. Boyd, and more than 40 cousins and friends too numerous to count.

Obituary: David Lyle Snyder

snyderdavidDavid Lyle Snyder, Jr., 81 of Athens died Oct. 7, 2015 at The Hospice of East Texas, Tyler surrounded by his family.

He was born July 31, 1934 in Hastings, Nebraska. David was the son of David Lyle Snyder and Anna Viola Murphy. David served his country in the Army during the Korean War becoming one of the youngest Sergeants in his platoon.

David returned from Korea and completed his enlistment at Fort Knox before returning home to Nebraska. He later moved to Texas where he met his lovely bride Wilma Jean Garrard. David and Jean were married in The Four Square Church in Irving. They moved back to Nebraska where they began to pastor their first church embarking on what would be a 55-year career of ministry and service. David found great joy in living out his faith by helping people in need and introducing searchers to Christ. David embodied what a Christian’s life should be inspiring others through his peaceful nature and genuine love for those around him.

Helen Splawn passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015 in Athens.

Helen Fern Akin Splawn was born Aug. 6, 1930 in Henderson County, Texas the daughter of Joseph D. Akin and Exer Lambright Akin. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with her son Johnnie Wayne Splawn, especially their card games. In her younger years she enjoyed sewing, babysitting and caring for the children of her family and friends. Helen volunteered helping the sick and needy all around the area. She loved spending time with her family, was a loving mother, aunt, great and great-great aunt, sister in law, cousin, and friend who will be missed by all she knew and loved.
