Obituary: Aida Greer

Greer, AidaFuneral services for Aida Greer, 78, of Athens, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at St. Edwards Catholic Church with Father Nolan Lowry officiating. Interment will follow at Poynor Cemetery under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.

Aida passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2016 in Athens.

Braulia Aida Greer was born August 16, 1937 in San Manuel, Texas the daughter of Agustin Flores and Francisca Garza Flores. She was a devout member of the St. Edwards Catholic Church in Athens and stayed strong in her faith. Aida taught ESL and Spanish in schools all over Texas, New Mexico, Illinois, and New Jersey. She especially enjoyed coaching cheer and softball and was quite great at playing softball. She enjoyed swimming and was a huge Lady Cardinals Basketball supporter. Aida was a loving soul, who stayed very close to her friends from all over the U.S. Her true life joy was her grandsons. Aida was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother who will be missed by all she knew and loved.

Obituary: Glenn Everett

Everett, GlennGraveside services for Glenn Everett, 77, of Athens are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2015 at Shelby Chapel Cemetery in Athens, Texas with Bro. Dale Perry officiating. The services will be under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.

Mr. Everett passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2015 in Tyler, Texas.

Glenn Ross Everett was born Oct. 1, 1938 in Athens, Texas the son of Edgar Daniel Everett and Mae Morgan Everett. He was a member of the Living for the Brand Cowboy Church in Athens. Glenn was an avid outdoorsman, loved watching the Texas Rangers and Texas A&M football and playing dominoes. Grand Dad’s greatest joy was spending time with his grandkids. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all those he knew.

Obituary: Eddie Miers

3900408Funeral services for Eddie Miers, 67, Malakoff, have been scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015 at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jody Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Shelby Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. Miers passed away Dec. 16, 2015 in Tyler.

He was born Sept. 20, 1948 in Athens, Texas. He served his country proudly as a member of the United States Marine Corp serving in the Force Recon unit serving 39 months in Vietnam. During his many tours of duty he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Combat Medal and the Meritorious Unit Citation along with his Rifle Sharpshooter Badge. After his time in the military Eddie returned to Henderson County where he was born and started serving his community. He was Police Chief in Malakoff for many years prior to going into business for himself opening Malakoff Auto Center which he operated for 30 plus years. He was Baptist by faith. He served on the Malakoff School board for 18 years. He was involved in many different political organizations and affiliations in the county as well. Eddie loved his family and cherished the time he spent with them.

Obituary: Albert Thomas Stovall, Jr.

Stovall, AlbertPrivate graveside services for Albert Thomas Stovall Jr., of Athens are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015 at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Athens, Texas with Bro. Darren Miller officiating and will be under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.

Mr. Stovall passed away on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015 in Athens, Texas.

Albert Thomas Stovall Jr. was born May 3, 1935 in Lake County, Florida to the late Albert Thomas Stovall Sr. and Ollie Mae Snowden. He graduated from high school in Mount Dora, Florida in 1953. In 1954 he enlisted in the United States Army and following boot camp in Fort Gordon, Georgia he was ordered to Germany where he was stationed with the 1st Infantry Division (Big Red ONE) in the 63rd Tank Battalion. He was honorably discharged at fort Riley, Kansas on July 19, 1957.Following his military service he returned to Central Florida where he worked for the next 20 years for various major Beer Distributors in the Ocala, Florida area as the manager of their distribution warehouses. He moved to Athens, Texas in 1977 and began selling Asphalt paving machines for LEE-BOY Equipment Company until eventually retiring with Gillert Gas Company. He was a loving father, brother, grandfather, and uncle who will be greatly missed by all he knew and loved.

Hazel Lowe Sharpe passed away Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015.

Hazel was born Dec. 28, 1928 in Ranger, Texas the oldest child of Ernest Lee Dempsey and Maggie Viola Dempsey.
