ValloiceGraveside services for Valloice Holley Livingston, 85 of Athens are scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016 at Athens Cemetery with Dr. Joe Warren officiating.

Mrs. Livingston passed away Jan. 9, 2016 in Athens.

She was born in Gainesville, Texas on Jan. 14, 1930 to Willis Ray and Theresia Metzler Holley. Valloice attended schools in Gainesville, Texas where she met and married Dan M. Livingston on Nov. 25, 1948 and moved to Athens. They left Athens in 1952 and later returned with their three children in 1966. Valloice was an aide for Athens ISD for many years before she and her daughter-in-law, Janna Livingston opened Shoes Etc. in 1984. For 25 years Valloice was affectionately known as the “Shoe Lady.

Obituary: ‘Rusty’ Ryon

RustyA Celebration of the Life of “Rusty” Ryon, 63, of Athens, will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016 at the Dogwood Church in Athens with Pastor Danny Rodriguez officiating. Services will be under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.

Mr. Ryon went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016 in Athens.

Julious Elmo Ryon III was born July 7, 1952 in Waco, Texas the son of Julious Elmo Ryon Jr. and Elizabeth Lorene Scoggins Ryon. He was a dedicated member of Dogwood Church in Athens and stayed strong in his faith throughout his life. Rusty devoted his entire life to youth ministry, volunteering for Young Life and Coaches Outreach and working for many other youth organizations all over Texas since the 70’s. He worked for TAMCO as a certified ropes course instructor for over four years where he guided participants in developing communication, leadership and team building skills through the use of experimental exercises and guided discussions. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as working his cattle. Rusty loved spending time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews who all held a special place in his heart. Rusty was a loving brother, uncle and friend who will be missed by all he knew and loved.

Obituary: Barbara Van Rogers

Rogers, BarbaraServices for Barbara Van Rogers, 78, of Malakoff are scheduled Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Athens with Bro. Gene Hazell and Bro. Buddy Hazell officiating. Burial will follow at Malakoff City Cemetery in Malakoff under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.

Surrounded by family and listening to her favorite gospel hymns, she died at home on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016.

Obituary: Billie Jean Elizabeth Wallace

Billie Jean Elizabeth Wallace of Seven Points, Texas passed away on January 3, 2015 at the age of 88.

Billie was born on July 03, 1927 in Bearden, Arkansas to Monroe Albert Pierce and Ila Knight Pierce.

She is survived by her daughters, Matsy Jane Walker of Malakoff, TX, Deloris Jean Stoffers of Seven Points, TX and Lisa Kay Accord of Port Arthur, TX, son, Ben Audy Wilcox of Port Neches, TX, sister, Deborah Summer of Round Rock, TX, 15 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Obituary: Harry Eugene Guill, Jr.

hary guillHarry Eugene Guill, Jr., a resident of Athens, formerly of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, died on January 2, 2016, after a short battle with cancer.

Guill was born on October 18, 1930, in Greensboro, North Carolina, as the only child of Harry Eugene Guill, Sr. and Reba Peterson Guill. In his adult life, he served in the Navy, earning the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Medal with Bronze Star during his twenty-two years of service. As both an enlisted man and a civilian, he worked as an air traffic controller. Following his retirement from the Navy at the rank of Chief Petty Officer, Guill worked at Blossman Gas in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.
