Obituary: Gloria Dickerson

Gloria Dickerson, 83, of Athens, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2017 in Tyler.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Gloria Joan Volker Dickerson was born September 3, 1933 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana the daughter of DeWitt McClain Volker and Pearl Leann Gwiff Volker. She was a homemaker in every sense of the word who loved to cook and spend every waking hour raising her family. She loved fishing with her husband, visiting with friends and volunteering at the hospital. She was a mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all she knew and loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband T.D. Dickerson and one brother Quinton Volker.

She is survived by her sons, Danny Dickerson ad wife Suzi of Chandler, Johnny Dickerson and wife Susan of Larue and four grandchildren, Greg Ostermeier and wife Gretchen, Doug Dickerson, Matthew Dickerson and Joseph Dickerson.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.

Obituary: Renate Funderburg

Memorial services for Renate Funderburg, 76, of Murchison are scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens.

Mrs. Funderburg passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2017 in Tyler.

Renate Tonnisen Funderburg was born September 24, 1940 in Dusseldorf, Germany the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earnest Tonnisen. She cooked and volunteered at the Texarkana Arkansas Baseball Association for many years and truly enjoyed giving her time to the parents and kids at the ballpark. She loved taking care of her many plants and her spare time was spent reading and working word find puzzles. “Moo Moo” was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all she knew and loved.

Obituary: Charles Sanders

Charles Sanders was born June 21, 1932 in Athens, Texas to Ella Drew and Charles M. Sanders, Sr. He was a 1952 graduate of Athens High School. He also attended Henderson County Junior College prior to his 1954 enlistment in the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force he served as a weather observer during the Korean War. In 1955, he married the love of his life, Shirley Dean Jones. After his service in the Air Force he attended the University of Illinois where he completed his Bachelor of Science degree. In 1964, he joined the faculty of Athens High School where he taught Math, Science and Vocational Education until his retirement in 1991. Charles completed a Master degree at East Texas State University. He held several teaching certifications. He was a long-time member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Athens where he served in numerous leadership roles. Former reserve officer of the Athens Police Department. He was also a member of the Lions Club, Athens Genealogical Society, and the Henderson County Genealogical Society.

Charles passed away Sunday, April 30th following a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his dear wife Shirley. He is survived by his children, Diane and Kenny Bergmann of College Station, Texas; Cynthia Sanders of Athens, Texas and Sally and Ricky Cribbs of Ovilla, Texas. He is also survived by his granddaughter Kathryn Bergmann of Dallas, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Athens or the Athens Public Education Foundation. Viewing will be Thursday, May 4th at 5:00 pm at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted Friday, May 5th at 10:00 am at the Oaklawn Memorial Park.

Obituary: Ronda Morton

Memorial graveside services for Ronda Morton, 47, of Tyler, Texas are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, May 7, 2017 at Red Hill Cemetery near Murchison.

Ms. Morton passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 in Tyler.

Ronda Lynn Dickinson Morton was born October 29, 1969 in Longview, Texas the daughter of Ronnie Lee Dickinson and Brenda Joyce Jones Dickinson. She was a member of the 1st Baptist Church of Brownsboro and loved helping people. Ronda was a charge nurse at the Colonial Rehabilitation Center in Tyler and spent her entire career trying to care for her patients like they were her family. She enjoyed writing, was an amazing artist and spent her free time watching movies. Ronda truly enjoyed going places and was known as the life of any gathering she was a part of. She was a loving mother who adored her boys and loved spending time with her family.
