Obituary: Marjorie King Cochran

Marjorie King Cochran of Malakoff went to be with the Lord on 18th of July, 2017.

Marjorie was born August 31, 1931 in Burnt Prairie, IL. Her devotion to her family, community, church and friends was the focus of her life. Marjorie was a master at listening, teaching, telling amazing stories and making you feel good. She also was a devoted follower of the Trinity Valley Community College Choral Department. Marjorie was married to Stewart Benson Cochran, the love of her life for 52 years. Together, Stewart and Marjorie were a spectacular team.

Marjorie received her Masters Degree from San Diego State University. Marjorie was involved in numerous organizations and was an avid animal lover. Marjorie started teaching in 1955 is the San Diego city schools where she won many teaching awards. Her interests included rescuing dogs, bible study groups, listening to big band music of the 40’s, and touring the country in the motor-home with her husband. Marjorie is survived by her husband Stewart Benson Cochran, her son Douglas Benson Cochran, her two grandchildren, Karsen Cochran, and Tanner Benson Cochran. Additionally her sister and brother in-law, Pamela and Charles LLewellyn.

Visitation service will be held at Autry- Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, July 23. Services will be at First Presbyterian Church of Athens, on Monday, July 24 at 11 a.m.

Obituary: Alfred Kelley

Funeral services for Alfred Kelley, 84, of Athens are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, July 21, 2017 at the Sand Springs Baptist Church with Bro. Erick Graham officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Athens.

Mr. Kelley went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 17, 2017 in Athens.

Alfred Winson Kelley was born July 20, 1932 in Columbia, Tennessee the son of Alfred Winson Kelley and Ora Jane Shepherd Kelley. He was inducted into the Army in 1957 and spent nearly ten years serving our Country. He was a member of the Sand Springs Baptist Church and was a good Christian man who loved reading his Bible. Alfred owned Athens Alternator & Battery for many years and worked hard to provide for his family. He was a musician who loved to sing and play his guitar; even spending time in his younger years in a country and western band. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather who will be missed by all he knew and loved.

Obituary: Thema ‘Jo’ Hasty

Graveside services for Jo Hasty, 93, of Athens are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at the Athens Cemetery with Pastor David Mahan officiating. Services will be under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.

Ms. Hasty went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 16, 2017 in Athens.

Thelma Josephine Blissett was born July 25, 1923 in Tool, Texas the daughter of Roland Blissett and Olivia Blanche Johnson Blissett. She was a member of the Eastern Hills Church of Christ in Athens. She loved listening to her audiobooks and Wheel of Fortune and spent her spare time sewing and crocheting in her younger years. Granny’s true joy in life was her children and grandchildren and she spent every possible moment with them. Granny Jo was a truly loving mother, grandmother and sister who will be missed by all she knew and loved.

Obituary: Rev. Dr. Roy Southard

Funeral services and visitation for Roy Louis Southard of Athens will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Palestine Wednesday July 19, 2017. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. and services will begin at 2 p.m. Rev. David Adler will be officiating. Interment will be at the Dallas/Ft. Worth National Cemetery in Dallas at a later date.

Roy was the last of four children born to Harold E. and Mabel A. (nee) Berges Southard. He was born April 5, 1943 in Topeka, Kansas, and The Lord in His goodness and mercy called him from this life to Himself in heaven July 14, 2017. He married Karen Ann Wappler June 7, 1969. They were blessed with one son, David.

Obituary: Trevor Morris

A celebration of the Life of Trevor Morris 39, Murchison will be held Tuesday July 18, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Rock Hill Baptist Church with Bro. Buddy Johnson and Bro. Eric Johnson officiating.

Private interment will follow at Morris Cemetery, China Grove, Texas.

Trevor was born September 24, 1977 to parents Calvin and Diana Morris in Tyler, Texas. He graduated from North Garland High School where he excelled in sports and other activities. After high school Trevor served his country in the United States Marine Corps during which time he earned a rank of sergeant and received several medals for his steadfast and distinguished service. His fellow Marines remember his as “the best Marine they ever knew”. He gave his all to everything he did, which extended to his professional and ministerial life. Trevor’s service to Christ in the Gospel ministry began when God called him to preach in the year 2000 and continued till the day God called him home. After pastoring in the United States, he followed the Lord in foreign missionary service to the country of Ecuador, where God used him to begin a church in the city of Cuenca in the mountains of Ecuador. After returning from Ecuador he worked as general manager and later vice-president of Burton Oil Service Operations. Most recently he served as Pastor of Union Hill Baptist Church in Brownsboro, Texas where he is dearly loved and remembered. He was most passionate for the glory of God, the work of missions and his precious family.
