Obituary: Gerald King

Funeral services for Gerald King 82, Athens have been scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Wednesday September 20, 2017 at Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Erick Graham officiating.

Burial will follow at Zion Hill Cemetery.

Mr. King passed away Friday evening in Athens.

He was born August 2, 1935 in Malakoff to the late Evans David and Gladys Marie Angel King. He was a longtime resident of Athens. He was a truck driver and worked for Curtis Mathes and Harvey Industries for numerous years. He then became an Independent operator for eight years prior to his retirement. He enjoyed being outside and loved to tend to his cows. He will be missed by his family and friends.

Obituary: Patricia Willis Gatlin

Memorial services for Patricia Willis Gatlin, 79 Athens will held at 3 p.m. Sunday, September 17, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Charlie Horne officiating and the eulogy from Dr. Joe Warren. Patricia passed away after a sudden illness on Thursday, September 14, 2017 in Athens.

Patricia was loved by many. Whether they called her Patricia, “Miss Trish,” “my other-mother,” mom, or grandmother, she loved all. She was a former Miss Athens. She loved her church, friends, and her family. She gained great pleasure in providing meals to her friends and family during times of illness or need or even just for something good to eat. She will be missed by us all.

Patricia was preceded in death by her husband Herbert Gatlin, Jr.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law Ed and Paige Gatlin, her daughter and son -in-law Ann Gatlin and Dorr Scherz, and her four grandchildren Aaron Scherz, Alexandria Gatlin, Lloyd Scherz, and Justin Gatlin.

Obituary: Haskell Crossley

Funeral services for Haskell “Hack” Crossley, 87, of Athens are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home with Bro. Dale Perry officiating. Interment will follow at New York Cemetery in Athens.

Mr. Crossley passed away on September 6, 2017 in Athens.

Haskell Barrette Crossley was born November 29, 1929 in Brownsboro, Texas the son of George Jefferson Crossley and Vennie Williams Crossley. He joined the United States Marines in 1950 and was Honorably discharged in 1953. He was a member of the Living for the Brand Cowboy Church in Athens and enjoyed reading. Hack never met a stranger, loved to shoot the breeze and was known as a hard-worker who spent many years working as a farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jarvis Crossley.

He is survived by his daughter Brenda Moreland and husband Dixon of Sundown; two sisters, Ophelia Pool of Ennis, Maxoline Briggs of Irving; one brother John Crossley of Athens; two grandchildren, Colten Moreland and wife Kate, Jessica Moreland; three great grandchildren, Leo Moreland, James Moreland, Piper Nichols and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, September 8, 2017 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens.
