Joy was raised in the Bethel community near Athens, Texas, and went on to marry Henry Eugene (Piney) Wood. A member of the “Greatest Generation” that overcame the struggles of the Great Depression and helped win World War II, she worked in an aircraft factory for the P-51 fighter plane while Piney was away in Europe in the Normandy invasion and fighting in France. She graduated from LVN school and retired from nursing after 20 years. Joy had a true passion for gardening and grandchildren, and her retired years were filled with both. She was a true nurturer who was so very proud of her family and always made sure they knew just how proud she was. She was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church in Pasadena until she relocated to College Station in recent years. Joy loved the Lord and always enjoyed studying her Bible.
