Obituary: Timmy Lee Morrison

Timmy Lee Morrison was born May 12, 1973, in Tyler, Texas, and died in an accident on October 15, 2017 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Timmy was a resident of Katy, Texas recently, but was raised in Athens, Texas and considered Athens his home.

Tim was a remarkable man and loved by everyone that ever met him. He was a great husband to his wife Erika whom he adored. He was a “Super Daddy” to his three children that owned his heart. He was actively involved in the children’s daily lives from coaching and cheering his son in sports to painting his girl’s nails and doing their hair. He became a man that loved pink the day his girls were born! Anyone that knew Tim would say that he was full of life and he lived each day unselfishly. He had a kind, loving spirit and a heart of gold.

Obituary: Joy Brown

Funeral services for Joy Brown, age 84 of Murchison are scheduled for 1 p.m., Saturday, October 21, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Murchison with Bro. Bryan Adair officiating. Interment will be in the Red Hill Cemetery east of Murchison.

Mrs. Brown passed away Wednesday October 18, 2017 at her home in Murchison. She was born on August 1, 1933 to Conley and Frankie Scott of the Black Jack Community in Henderson County. Joy was a Christian and a member of the First Baptist Church of Murchison. Where she served as a Sunday School teacher and church clerk, treasurer, sang in the choir and was the church custodian for many years. Joy was a graduate of Brownsboro High School. It was there where she met the love of her life, Thomas Brown. They married in 1950. They settled in Murchison in 1952 and lived in the same house on Hwy 31 for 61 years. She was a loving mother of four daughters. She was a very skilled seamstress, cook, and loved serving others.

Obituary: Jack L. Ward

A memorial service for Jack L. Ward will be held Saturday, October 21, 2017, 10 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Athens under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.

Jack L. Ward passed away Sunday, October 15 at his home in Athens where he was being cared for by family members after enduring many months of debilitating illness related to heart disease and lung cancer. He was 82 years old.

Obituary: Jonnie Schmidt

Memorial services for Jonnie Schmidt, 72, of Athens will be held 3 p.m., Friday, October 13, 2017 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens with Bro. Kelly Carnes officiating.

Mr. Schmidt passed away October 10, 2017 in Athens, Texas.

Johnnie Christopher Schmidt was born September 19, 1945 in Dallas, Texas the son of John Edger Schmidt and Barbara Kokar Schmidt. He joined the United States Army early and spent over 20 years fighting for our Country; doing two tours in Vietnam. Johnnie came back and began his career with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice before retiring after many years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Bobbie Stone Schmidt.

He is survived by his children, Johnnie Schmidt and wife Robin of Rockford, Alabama, Robert Schmidt and wife Kim of Sylacauga, Alabama, Tiffany Buttram and husband Buddy of Piedmont, Alabama, Lee Schmidt Hoffman of Connecticut; two sisters Maureen Hutchison and husband Frank of Canton, Gloria Moore of Lake Jackson; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family of Athens.

Obituary: James Wesley Dozier

James Wesley Dozier, 77, of Athens, passed away to his heavenly home on October 10, 2017. He was born on January 25, 1940 to Joseph Wesley Dozier and Vecretta Juanita Ward.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Billy Edward Dozier.

James graduated from Athens High School in 1958. He served his country in the US Navy from 1958 to 1960. He was a deacon and faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of the Black Jack Community. James owned and operated Piggy’s BBQ in Murchison from 1991-2009.
