Obituary: Sara Ann Stripling

Sara Ann Stripling Jenkins was born July 12, 1944, in Beaumont, Texas to Arthur Reagan Stripling and Allene Mueller Stripling; she entered in to rest with her savior Jesus Christ at her home in Athens, Texas on November 8, 2017.

Sara graduated from Athens High School, Class of 1962, then attended HCJC and became a Cardette; she went on to complete her Bachelors in Elementary Education at North Texas State University. She married her high school sweetheart, Erv. Jenkins, in 1965 and enjoyed 52 years together. She was an unwavering supporter of her children and grandchildren as well as devoted to her church. She had a servant’s heart and volunteered in numerous activities such as a Sunday school teacher, Girl Scout leader, G.A.s, homeroom mother, organized Mother’s Day Out, as well as a chauffeur for her girls. She loved to travel with Erv., to shop for a great deal, and she had a great sense of humor. Her fun-loving and kind presence will be missed by her family.

Obituary: Johnny Ray Lindley

Funeral services for Johnny Ray Lindley 66, Athens have been scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jason Smith officiating.

Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park, Athens.

Johnny passed away Tuesday evening in Tyler.

He was born December 30, 1950, in Pampa, Texas to J.C and Clara Florene Seabourn Lindley. Johnny graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and went on to serve his country in the United States Navy serving on the U.S.S. Piedmont. He attended Texas A&M University. Johnny loved music and he was an avid guitar player. He loved to read and had a special gift writing poetry. He was a Baptist by faith.

Obituary: Dr. Jim Taylor

Dr. Jim Taylor passed away at his home in Auburn on October 25, 2017.

He was born on September 3, 1957, in West Memphis, Arkansas; but grew up in Auburn, graduating from AHS, AU, and AU Veterinary School, and did post-doctorate work at Texas A & M. After private practice for 35 years in Texas, he returned to Auburn on the staff of the AU Vet School, Equine Unit.

He is survived by his daughter Kayleigh; parents Jim and Virginia Taylor; sister and brother-in-law Jennifer and Jim Carson; niece Hayley (Jimbo) Tucker; nephew Jim (Courtney) Carson IV; and five great-nieces and nephews.

Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery, Franklin County, Alabama for family; and a memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, Athens, Texas on Saturday, November 18, 2017, at 10 a.m. Jim had a heart for missions and for helping anyone in need, especially children.

Obituary: Alice Rice

Funeral services for Alice Rice, 84, of Athens are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Fellowship Baptist Church in Athens with Bro. Mike Dean officiating. Interment will follow at 3:30 p.m. in New Summerfield Cemetery.

Ms. Rice went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 30, 2017 in Pasadena.

Alice Mae Collins Rice was born September 16, 1933 the daughter of Jess Collins and Ada Ellen Collins. She was a faithful member of the Fellowship Baptist Church and active in the Shepherds Class. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking and outdoors activities such as taking care of her flower garden and hunting when she was allowed. Alice was one of the sweetest souls anyone could have ever met and loved spending time with her family. She was a loving mother, sister and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all she touched.
