Obituary: Shelley Jean Simmons

Shelley Jean Simmons of Tyler passed away on February 3, 2018, she was born on January 31, 1963 to Rufus Neal Simmons and Martha Jean Conditt Simmons.

She was preceded in death by her parents; uncles, aunts and cousins.

Shelley loved people and was a dedicated friend to all she met and had in her life. She was a very loving and protective sister to Melanie. Shelley loved to read and was faithful to read her bible daily. She had a very contagious laugh that will be greatly missed.

Obituary: Stanley Haynes

Funeral services for Stanley Haynes, 59, of Murchison will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, February 1, 2018 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens with Bro. Terry Thomison officiating.

Mr. Haynes passed away January 27, 2018 in Murchison, Texas.

Stanley Franklin Haynes was born April 4, 1958 in Clarksville, Texas the son of Anthony Franklin Haynes and Gayle Hudson Haynes. He lived in Bogata, Texas until 1964 when his family moved to Murchison, where he spent the next 12 years before he joined the United States Army. Stan served his country for 6-1/2 years and during that time he met his wife Cornelia (Connie) Monika Koehler in Bamberg, Germany where he was stationed and they married in 1980. After he was Honorably discharged they moved back and settled into his childhood home in Murchison and began a family. He was a bridge inspector for the Texas Highway Department for over 19 years before he retired to begin the ranch and farming life. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved horses; running cutting horses and feedlot sorting, raising cattle, bailing hay, fishing and hunting. OPA was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother who will be missed by all he knew and loved.

Obituary: Terry Allen Palmer

Graveside services for Terry Allen Palmer 63, Athens have been scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday February 2, 2018 at Patterson Cemetery with Rev. Frank Upchurch officiating. Under the direction of Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.

Mr. Palmer passed away Monday January 29, 2018 in Athens.

He was born January 14, 1955 in Rusk County to the late Thomas Henry Jr. and Doris Oleta Riddlesberger Palmer. He was an oilfield worker and dozier operator before becoming disabled. He loved people and was a very kind hearted. He loved and enjoyed his family and friends.

Obituary: Carolyn Faye Hanson

Carolyn Faye Hanson of Athens, passed away on January 27, 2018 in Athens. She was born on March 19, 1949 to Tim Clifford Sherar and Anna Veleata Kennedy Sherar in Lubbock.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jerry Leon Hanson Sr.; her sister, Norma Sherar.

Carolyn graduated from TVCC after going back to school as an adult. She did very well and graduated with honors. She was a very talented lady. She sang in a ladies group called the” Sweet Adelines”. She played the piano for weddings and different events. She was a writer, enjoying poetry and writing news for local newspapers, she also had written a book that was published. Carolyn loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly.

Obituary: Jean Francis Norman

“Ducky” would like to let you know, that her work here is done. She received a call, sort of an offer she could not refuse, for an appointment from which she will not be returning. This assignment comes with a huge sign-on bonus, a reunion with family and friends that she has not seen in a long time. Job security is exactly 100 percent. Her new mission takes her to a wonderful place where she will be socializing, dancing, gardening, and reading till her hearts content. Music, laughter and love are guaranteed. She left detailed instructions for Kathy, her grandson Michiel, her great-granddaughter, Cheyenne and her 3 loving sisters, Joanie, Peggy and Dot, to celebrate her life and rejoice in her new Heavenly home.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Autry’s Carroll- Lehr Funeral Chapel, with the funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. Burial to follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park.
