Funeral Services for Florence Rogers, 76, of Athens are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Athens with Bro. Kenneth Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at the Malakoff Cemetery.

Ms. Rogers went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 8, 2018 Athens, Texas.

Florence Amanda Mitchell Rogers was born June 23, 1941 to Edward and Juanita Ward of Zent, Arkansas. Flo and her husband Rev. Jesse Rogers were missionaries who served the Lord their entire lives, traveling all over to spread the Gospel through their Touch the Heart Feel the Hurt Ministries. She was a Blessed woman, a dedicated homemaker who loved her family and will be missed by all she knew and loved.

Obituary: Joyce Faye Henshaw

Funeral services for Joyce Faye Henshaw, 70, of Athens are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, February 15, 2018 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Athens with Pastor Chuck Hinton officiating. Interment will follow at Carroll Springs Cemetery.

Ms. Henshaw went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 12, 2018 in Athens.

Joyce Faye Grubbs Henshaw was born February 16, 1947 in Dallas, Texas the daughter of Carl Stien Grubbs and Doll Viola Locklin Grubbs. She was a loved and devoted member of the Athens Church of God who truly loved to praise and worship. She let all around her know that she was so excited that she was getting to go Home to her mansion in Heaven soon. She loved life, was known as a jokester and spent hours upon hours watching the Game Show Network and Lifetime Movies. MoMo was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be greatly missed.

Obituary: Carl Leroy Anderson

Carl Leroy Anderson of Athens, Texas was born on April 12, 1939 in Seminole, Oklahoma and passed away on February 8, 2018 at home with his wife by his side at the age of 78.

A Memorial Service is scheduled for Sunday the 11th of February 2018 at Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home in Athens at 2 p.m. Burial services will be held in Olney, Texas at a later date.

Carl graduated High School and went to work in the Texas oil fields. He then went across the country to work in Washington state at Simpson’s Lumber Mill until he retired 35 years later. Carl retired to Athens, Texas with his wife Peggy and youngest son Joseph.

Obituary: Steven Allen Buie

Steven Allen Buie was born on January 14, 1949 to Mother, Clover Davis (Rutherford) Buie and father Aaron Watts Buie of Corsicana, Texas.

Steve, as a teenager, joined the Navy. He had been drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War, but decided that the Navy was a better path. He became an E-4, and learned a trade of electronics. Which at the time he had no idea that this decision was going to change the path in life. He had a successful business “Steve’s TV and VCR “, in Athens and Whitehouse, Texas. He was a real estate broker, and owned over 400 properties in Corsicana. He also was Certified Novell Network engineer, which was the next movement before Microsoft came along! He was certified by Sharp, the Electronics manufacturer, as number 2 technician in electronic repair in the Nation. He was the most charismatic College Professor and High School teacher ever known, and was loved by all of his students, his daughter Stephanie being one of them. As a missionary he changed many lives in Jamaica. Bringing the people he touched and taught into the light of the future. He was “Jack of all Trades”, and could basically fix almost anything and often did, with the Buie tool box; this consisted of a couple “staple items” of Duct Tape and wire coat hangers.
