Funeral services for Susan Powell Woodruff, 65, of Dallas formerly of Athens are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, February 26, 2018 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Athens with the Rev. Faulk Landrum officiating.

Ms. Woodruff passed away on February 22, 2018 Athens, Texas.

Susan Marie Powell Woodruff was born June 26, 1952 in Athens, Texas the daughter of James Thurman Powell and Marnece Owens Powell. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dallas, was a very musical person who loved to sing and play the piano. Her love was charity work and her job as a personal shopper. She was a loving daughter and niece and will be missed by all she knew and loved.

Obituary: Peggy Ann Knight

Graveside services for Peggy Ann Knight 76, Athens have been scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday February 25, 2018 at Oaklawn Memorial Park, Athens with Rev. Travis Norrell officiating under the direction of Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home, Athens.

Peggy passed away Friday February 23, 2018 in Athens.

She was born July 23, 1942 in Dallas to the late Robert Lee and Corena Faye Lambright Knight.

Survivors include her sisters Pat Monroe, Athens, Darlene Norrell and husband James, Canton, and 13 nieces and nephews.

Visitation for family and friends will be Saturday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Obituary: Willie Fern Jones

Willie Fern Jones of Murchison was born January 28, 1921 to Pickney Love Fowler and Bertha Jewell Brown. She passed away February 21, 2018 in Athens, TX.

Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband Dale Jones, her parents, and five brothers and one sister. She is survived by her sons: Fowler Arthur Jones and wife Sally, and Allen Jones and wife Kris; sisters; Bertha Hatton and Betty Sue Davis; grandchildren: Tammy Shook and husband Lyndon, Artie Jones and wife Michelle, Dale Ann Mizell and husband Dave, and Bryan Seale. She is also survived by numerous great and great-great-grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.

Obituary: Bob Cook

Funeral services for Bob Cook, 92, of Athens will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens with Rev. Brian Waddell officiating. Interment following at 12:30 P.M. on Wednesday in the Tyler Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Cook passed away February 16, 2018 in Chandler, Texas.

Robert “Bob” Cook was born December 5, 1925 in Athens, Texas the son of Frank Cook and Brazoria Cantrell Cook. He joined the Army and served courageously during WWII at one point being a prisoner of war in a Nazi prison camp, before being Honorably discharged. He retired from Gould Battery after many years as the plant foreman. He was a member of the Carroll Springs United Methodist Church and enjoyed going to Sunday school. He loved farm work and riding the tractor. He was a loving father, brother and grandfather who will be missed by all he knew.
