Obituary: September Riley Rayelen Leigh

Services for September Riley Rayelen Leigh, of Canton, are scheduled for 10 am Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 at Eubank Chapel with Bro. Ronnie Daniel officiating, under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home, Canton.

Burial will be in Haven of Memories, Canton.

She passed away Feb. 3, 2013 in Gun Barrel City.

Miss Leigh was born Jan. 18, 2013 in Longview, TX, to William (Mikey) Leigh and Lisa Abby Gail Peace.

Surviving are father, William (Mikey) Leigh of Wills Point; mother, Abby Peace of Canton; brothers and sisters, Brittney Sizemore, Chloe Peace, Leylen Michael Keith Leigh, William Michael Leigh, Jr., Caleb Taylor Leigh, Bailey Alexandria Leigh, Jaden Dakota Leigh, Jordan Nikko Leigh, Devin Nevaeh; grandparents, Joey and Lisa Peace of Canton; grandmother, Teresa Ann Leigh of Wills Point; uncle, Joey Keith Peace, Jr. and Katie Lindley of Canton; aunt, Tanya McKee of Mesquite; aunt, Katie Leigh of Wills Point; numerous cousins.

September was preceded in death by grandfather Michael Henry Leigh; great-grandparents John and Virgina Leigh; great-grandparents James and Nannette Richards; great-grandfather Billy Jack Peace, Sr.

Family will receive friends Wednesday 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Obituary: Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Woolverton

On Feb. 2, 2013, Heaven welcomed Elizabeth “Betty” Woolverton, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, after a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

Betty was born in North Bay, Ontario, Canada, on Aug. 26, 1944, to Alice and Harold Briscoe. She married the love of her life, Jeff Woolverton, on April 11, 1987. She centered her life around her church, family and friends. Betty was an active member of New Frontiers Cowboy Church. She was very proud to have been the first female member of the Terrell Kiwanis Club. She loved spending time with Jeff, her children, grandchildren and many friends. She lived her life with grace, compassion, and ever giving love for her family. She was one of a kind.

She is survived by her husband, Jeff Woolverton, of Terrell; daughters, Nancy Harvard and husband Jack of Fairview, Susan Schulz and husband Wayne of West Tawakoni, Michelle Shaw of Lewisville, Teresa Gribble of Greenville; and sons, Jim Woolverton of Terrell, Billy Harrelson of Greenville and Mike Schalchli of Lindale; sisters, Ethel “Tootsie” Childerhose of Canada; and brothers, Donald and Dick Briscoe of Canada. She is survived by many, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Carolyn Palmer Deyoe, whom we know is now dancing by her side in Heaven.

The family would like to thank all of Betty’s family and friends for their love and support through this long journey. We couldn’t have made it through without you. A special thank you to Dr. Carolyn Matthews at Baylor University for her continuous support, and affection, for our beloved mother.

Betty’s life will be celebrated in a memorial service at Eubank Chapel in Canton on Tuesday, Feb. 5, at 11 a.m. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 4, at the Eubank Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Jim Woolverton, Mike Schalchli, Ben Woolverton, Ron Lanier, Mickey Denman and Chris Palmer.

Obituary: Russell Douglas McCloud

Funeral services for Russell Douglas McCloud of Athens are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013 at Athens United Pentecostal Church with Pastor Johnny Grissom and Bro. Jeff Stroud officiating. Interment will follow at Creek Cemetery in Lovelady, Texas.

He passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 in Athens.

Russell was a member of Athens United Pentecostal Church and went to Tiny Treasures Daycare. He loved playing with his big sister and cousins.

He is survived by his mother, Kimberly McCloud of Athens and father, Jason McCloud of Malakoff; sister Lauren Marie McCloud of Athens; maternal grandparents Doug and Kristina Latimer of Quitman, La.; paternal grandparents Michael and Sandra McCloud of Malakoff; maternal great-grandfather John Weese of Ft. Worth; maternal great-grandmother Violet Seward of Gun Barrel City; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Raymond Neal, Michael “Bubba” Bacon, Jr., Dusty Corbett, and Cody Lowe.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013 at Athens United Pentecostal Church.

Obituary: Stella Shelton

ATHENS – Funeral services for Stella Shelton, 85, of Athens are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Athens with Pastor Bryan Adair and Rodney Shelton officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Lufkin, Texas at 3 p.m.

Mrs. Shelton passed away on Friday, Feb. 1, 2013 in Athens.

Stella Hardy Shelton was born Aug. 9, 1927 in Stinnet, Texas the daughter of Keith Hardy and Thelma Sumpter Hardy. She was a member of the Lake Athens Baptist Church and was a faithful follower. She loved cooking and gardening and had a love for flowers. Mamaw’s greatest joy was all of her grandchildren. She was loved by everyone who was blessed to have known her and she will be greatly missed.

Mrs. Stella Shelton was preceded in death by N.R. Shelton, her parents and two brothers.

She is survived by her daughter Judy Flowers and husband Lee of Zavalla, Texas; two sons, Rodney Shelton and wife Charlotte of Fayetteville, GA, Randy Shelton and wife Janine of Athens; two sisters, Thelma Withers of Liberty City, Texas, Margaret Harmon of Dallas; three brothers, Howard Hardy of Angleton, Texas, Billy Hardy and wife Linda of Conroe, Texas, Jerry Hardy of Memphis, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren, Lee Flowers and wife Essie, Jared Flowers and wife Casey, Lynette Melton and husband Reagan, Scott Shelton and wife Heather, Melissa Guinn, Jordan Shelton and wife Sherry, Mark Shelton, Jerry Shelton; 18 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous members of the Shelton family.

The Family of Stella Shelton would like give a special thanks to Caring Heart Hospice and Green Oaks Nursing Home of Athens.

Obituary: Floyd Ray Smith, Jr.

MALAKOFF – Funeral services for Floyd Ray Smith, Jr. of Malakoff are scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013 at First Baptist Church Malakoff with the Rev. Casey Perry officiating. Graveside services will follow at Malakoff Cemetery.

Mr. Smith went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Feb. 1, 2013. Floyd was born in Bryan, Texas on Nov. 10, 1924. His parents, Floyd R. and Elizabeth Loraine Lipscomb Smith, raised seven children, and Floyd was the youngest. Floyd was an honest and hard-working owner-operator in the heavy-duty commercial trucking industry for many years.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents; all six of his siblings; and his loving wife of 68 years, Lavone Smith.

He was a loving husband and father, and he is survived by his five children, Carolyn Collins of Tyler, Marilyn Quinn of Malakoff, Kenneth Smith and wife Billye of Pasadena, Davis Smith of Baytown, John W. Smith of Pasadena, Texas; 11 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

His eight grandsons will serve as pallbearers and his good friend, Jerry Stone, will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

In lieu of flowers the family would like for donations to be made to the Children’s Building Fund at First Baptist Malakoff: 220 W. Mitchum St., Malakoff, Texas 75148.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, 2013 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens.
