Obituary: Juanita Baxter Stilwell

Memorial services for Juanita Baxter Stilwell, 91, of Athens, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Athens, with Dr. Faulk Landrum officiating.

Family graveside services will precede the memorial service at 10:30 a.m. in Athens Cemetery, under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home, Athens.

Mrs. Stilwell was born in Barry, Texas to the late Dave and Ora Neese Williams Juanita was a resident of Athens since in the mid-40’s. Alongside of her husband, Norman Baxter, they owned several businesses in Athens including the B&B Café. They later entered into a partnership with Obie Wilcox owning and operating the City Market for a number of years. Juanita and her husband Newt owned and operated a ranch in the Bethel Community for many years. She was very active in the First United Methodist Church. Juanita was a wonderful woman, loved by all and had a special way of touching the lives of everyone she met. She loved Athens, Texas and was a one-woman Chamber of Commerce.

Juanita is preceded in death by her husbands, Norman Baxter and N. L. (Newt) Stilwell; brother, Lloyd Williams; sisters, Bessie Moore, Fay Harper, Frankie Craig, Macle Posey; niece, Wanda James; and nephew, Johnny Craig.

Survivors include her stepson, Newel L. Stilwell, Jr., David Stilwell and his wife Belinda and grandchildren Alex and Erica Stilwell all of North Little Rock Arkansas; nephew, Charles Posey, Dallas; nieces, Anita Murray, Purdon, Camille Self, Scottsdale, Arizona; great-nephew, Greg Murray and Matt Murry, Purdon, along with other beloved nieces and nephews, and her grandson by choice, Jordy Costen, UT Austin.

Obituary: Margaret Anne Wilson Dean

Margaret Anne Wilson Dean of Gun Barrel City was born on April 20, 1936 to the home of Dr. Felix B. Wilson and Mae E. Garrett Wilson in Tappahannock, Va. She passed away on April 15, 2013.

Margaret was a member of Nomini Baptist Church since 1954. She was an integral part of establishing Woodland Academy in Montross, Va. She worked diligently to raise funds to build a brick wall around cemetery at Nomini Baptist Church. She was a hard worker and was devoted to her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother Felix Wilson; and son George Dean Jr.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Catherine Dean of Mabank; son Garrett Dean of Charlotte, N.C., and James Dean of Montross, Va.; granddaughter Kelly Dean of Glen Allen, Va.; and grandson George Dean, Jr. of Montross, Va.; and numerous other family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Virginia.

Obituary: Madeline ‘Susie’ Dunklin

Services for Madeline “Susie” Dunklin, 99, Frankston are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, April 18, 2013 in Carroll-Lehr Funeral Chapel with Rev. George Folmar officiating.

Burial will follow in Myrtle Springs Cemetery in LaRue.

Mrs. Dunklin died April 15, 2013 in Athens.

She was born July 28, 1913 in Henderson County to the late David Franklin and Pearl Rivers Masters Walker. Mrs. Dunklin had been a resident of Frankston 70 years and was a member of First United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband William Lloyd Dunklin in 1990; son Larry Dunklin; daughter Barbara Holt; grandson, Stephen Lookabaugh; five brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include her sons James Dunklin, Conroe, John F. Dunklin, Cross Roads; daughters Doris Belcher, Martha Clark and husband Bill, Judy Lookabaugh and husband Kenneth, all of Athens; daughter-in-law Sherry Dunklin, Frankston; brother-in-law Kenneth Dunklin and wife Lillian, Frankston; 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren.

Great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation for family and friends will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Obituary: Margaret Braddy

Memorial services for Magaret Braddy, 80, of Athens are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, April 18, 2013 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home Chapel with a private family burial at the Houston National Cemetery in Houston.

She passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2013 in Tyler.

Margaret Lucille Braddy was born Feb. 22, 1933 in San Antonio the daughter of George Tillman Cleveland and Althea Moon Cleveland. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Athens and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed floral design, crafts and working with stained glass. She loved playing cards. “Granny” was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband Horace L. Braddy Sr.; and one son, Lyle Braddy.

She is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth Voss and husband Gene of Seven Points, Bonnie Oberg and husband John of Athens, Melissa Moon of Dallas; one son, Horace L. Braddy Jr. of Acton, Texas; one brother, George Cleveland of San Antonio; nine grandchildren, Rebecca Wilder, Crystal Kiser, Shea Braddy, Trey Braddy, Ethan Braddy, Debbie Thacker, Randy Thacker, Jeanette Voss, Sandra Voss; 14 great-grandchildren, Xavier, Curley, Gavin, Aubrey, Robert, Summer, Christian, Crissy, Richard, Gea, John, Elizabeth, Chelsea, Shalee; and three great-great-grandchildren, Brendan, Joey and Aries.

Obituary: Fannie ‘Elmira’ Logan

Funeral services for Fannie “Elmira” Logan, 66, Athens are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at Cross Roads Baptist Church with Rev. Frank Upchurch and Chaplain Victor Willman officiating. Burial will follow in Judson Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.

Mrs. Logan passed away Sunday, April 14, 2013 in Cayuga.

She was born in Hunt County to the late Wesley Clayton and Alice Ivirne Lawrence . She married Jerry Gene Logan on Nov. 16, 1963. She enjoyed flower gardens, fishing, reading and taking care of her dog R. J. She loved all her family and friends and turned no one away. She was an excellent cook and caretaker. Mrs. Logan had a three-year long battle with cancer.

She was preceded in death by husband Jerry Gene Logan; brothers Delmer Lawrence, James Lee Lawrence and Elmer Lawrence.

Survivors include her children, Jerry Glenn Logan and wife Christina, Gun Barrel City, Dana Logan and Nick Hall, Cross Roads, Stacie Jean Ross and husband Darrell, Cayuga; grandchildren David Logan and wife Misty, Trinidad, Justin Logan and wife Katie, Mexia, Jeremy Logan and wife Melissa, Fairfield, Brittany Walker and husband Shelby, Cross Roads, Shelby Tucker, Brownsboro, Trinity Hall, Cross Roads, Matthew and Natalie Ross, Cayuga, Dalton Logan, Mabank, Hunter Strebeck and Hannah Harris, Gun Barrel City; great-grandchildren Maison Logan, Mexia, Emily and Dalton Hill and Hayden Glenn Logan due in July, all of Fairfield, Conner Logan, Mexia, Kaleb Holt, Halye Logan and Mackenzie Logan, Trinidad and baby Walker due in November, Cross Roads; brothers Raymond Lawrence and wife Charolete, Clayton Lawrence, Grady Lawrence and wife Kim, sisters, Louise Pendleton, Iverne Allen and husband Melvin Lee; numerous nieces, nephews and frields that she dearly loved.

Pallbearers are Darrell Ross, Jerry Logan, Justin Logan, Jeremy Logan, Nick Hall, and Shelby Walker.

The family would like to thank Dr. Maung OO and his staff and Dr. Ted Mettetal and his staff for the care they provided. The family appreciates everyone’s thoughts and prayers during their mother’s care.
