Funeral services for Eloise Powell, 89, formerly of Athens, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2014 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Athens, Texas with Rev. Jim Edwards officiating. Interment will follow at Fincastle Cemetery near Poynor.

Eloise Powell, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, slipped away peacefully on March 17, 2014 at her home in Tyler.

She was born April 6, 1924 in Fincastle, Texas to B.W. and Mattie Campbell-Wood.

Eloise was a faithful Christian who loved and trusted her Lord and Savior.

“Granny,” as she was known by many, was always a very generous, kind-hearted soul, never meeting a stranger and always quick with a sweet smile. She captured your heart and friendship at “Hello.” Her hobbies included cooking, gardening, cross stitching and canning fresh vegetables. She will be truly missed by all that knew her.
In addition to her parents, Eloise was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Woodrow “Red” Powell, granddaughter, Shena Denise Edwards, three sisters, Lorena Jacobs, Rosa Lee Chapman, Elizabeth Jozell McGuire, three brothers, Alvin Wood, William Bentley Wood, Melvin Junior Wood and four nephews.

She is survived by her daughter, Faye Powell-Harris of Tyler, two grandsons, Gaylon Edwards of Austin, and Tracy Edwards and wife Sherri of Tyler, three great grandchildren, Maegen Edwards of New Orleans, LA, Eli and Katie Edwards of Tyler, one brother, Calvin Preston Wood, of Malakoff. She was loved and cherished by her extended family, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the caregivers of Legacy Hospice of Tyler for all their devoted and tireless care for this special lady.

Attending pallbearers will be Brian Hall, T.J. Martin, Jeff Spivey, Phillip Surls, Bob Canada, and J.P. Cotton.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 20, 2014 from 5-7 p.m. at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home, 842 S.E. Loop 7, Athens,TX 75752.

Funeral services for Sidney McAlister, 52, formerly of Athens, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Athens, Texas. Interment will follow at Rome Cemetery in Athens.

Mr. McAlister passed away on Monday, March 17, 2014 in Star Harbor, Texas.

Sidney James McAlister was born March 11, 1962 in Dallas, Texas. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, collecting guns, knives and especially playing golf. Sid will be missed by all that knew and loved him.

Sidney McAlister is preceded in death by his parents, John Edward McAlister and Virsey Pauline Atkins and three brothers.
He is survived by his three loving children, James McAlister and wife Cheyenne of Athens, Clint McAlister and wife Karen of Abilene, Brandi McAlister of Athens; two sisters, Eve Henry of Sasche, Texas, Sara Click of Garland, Texas and three grandchildren, Dakota McAlister, Pyper McAlister and Taryn McAlister.
Serving as pallbearers will be Billy Miller, Alex Withers, Jonathan Montero, Robert Walker, Dan Eaton and Jesse Blair.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 21, 2014 from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens.

David DuranDavid Duran of Mabank passed away in Dallas at the age of 45.

David was born on April 22, 1968 in McKinney, Texas to Roberto Duran Sr. and Rufina Gonzales Duran.

David served 12 years in the Army.

He was employed at B&B Glass Company ,

He is survived by his parents, Roberto Sr. and Rufina Duran; loving wife of 25 years, Leslie Santos Duran; children, Lotasha Duran, Nina Cook, Jonathon Duran, Samantha Duran and Joseph Duran; sisters, Maria and Dolores Duran and Patricia Mendoza, brother, Roberto Duran Jr.; grandchildren, Morgan Duran, Nyah Calderon, Dominik Duran, Ava Baldwin, Brian Baldwin, Brailey Cook, Ephastion Cook, Jacob Cook and Lisa Taylor.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 from 5-8 p.m. at Huckabee/Tomlinson Funeral Home in Malakoff.

Memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Caney Creek Baptist Church in Log Cabin with Wayne Pitchford officiating.

Funeral services for James Croft, 42, of Brownsboro, Texas are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Athens, Texas with Bro. Jonathan Lilley officiating.  Interment will follow at Jennings Mountain Cemetery in Brownsboro, Texas.

Mr. Croft passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2014 in Brownfield, Texas due to a work accident.

James L. Croft born July 15, 1971 in Palestine, Texas the son of Forrest Lane Croft Sr. and Joyce Stanley Croft.  He loved fishing and fast cars.  He has been with his wife Tammy since March 10, 2006 and PeePaw was a loving family man that will be missed by all he knew and loved.

James was preceded in death by his brother Forrest Lane Croft Jr.

He is survived by his loving wife, Tammy Croft of Brownsboro, Texas; two sons, Lance Cantrell and wife Falon of Brownsboro, Texas, Brad Cantrell and wife Kayla of Poynor, Texas; three daughters, Rebecca Smith and husband Jeff of Brownsboro, Texas, Heather Cantrell of Brownsboro, Texas, Courtney Croft of Oakwood, Texas; his father, Forrest Croft Sr. of Corsicana, Texas; his mother, Joyce Kaminsky of Oakwood, Texas; three brothers, Curtis Croft and wife Cristine of Arlington, Texas, Don Croft of Corsicana, Texas, Charles Norris of Oakwood, Texas and three grandchildren, Brynlee Cantrell, Sylus Smith and Aiden Cantrell.

Mrs. Mullinax passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 in Dallas, Texas.

Mattie Sue Pierce Mullinax was born October 2, 1936 in Anderson County, Texas the daughter of Raymond Pierce and Ola Sutherlen Pierce. She was a dedicated member of the Cross Roads Baptist Church and a true Matriarch of her family. She was a hard worker, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and will be missed by all she knew and loved.

Mattie was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter Mary Jane Locke.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Harley Mullinax Sr. of Athens, Texas; one daughter, Sherrie Chitty and husband Tommy of Athens, Texas; four sons, Terry Locke and wife Jo of Gun Barrel City, Texas, Garry Locke of Athens, Kerry Locke of Athens, Deke Crutchfield and wife Michelle of Athens; four step children, Harley Carl Mullinax Jr. and wife Lana of Mena, Arkansas, Rachel George and husband Jeff of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Debra Booth and husband Robert of Charleston, North Carolina, Michelle Euless of Mena, Arkansas; one brother, Darryl Pierce; one sister, Arlene Wardale; seven grandchildren, Copper Brasher, Jacob Chitty, Jerry Locke, Kristin Locke, Justin Hairgrove, Courtney Chitty, Jeremy Crutchfield and three great grandchildren, Dylan Chitty, Aubrey Chitty and Brooke Locke.
