History calls

History will unfold Friday night as our beloved Tigers play in the state’s Game of The Week. Let that sink in … the Malakoff Tigers playing in the state’s Game of the Week.

No. 7 Malakoff vs. No. 6 Teague.

7-0 Malakoff vs. 7-0 Teague.

You don’t want to miss this.

With all eyes of the high school football world in the state on us, it will also likely be a historic crowd with the largest in the history of Tiger Stadium expected to be on hand. The word is out, folks, this is a big, big game.

This game has been circled on the schedule since February, when schedules were released. The assumption both teams would roll into the game 7-0 when October 24 arrived is now reality.

Both our Tigers and the Lions are to be congratulated for arriving at this point in the season with unblemished marks. 7-0 doesn’t just happen. Continue reading “Time For Malakoff Tiger Fans to Step Up”

Around Town: Buying Organs and Playing Carrot

I absolutely was not drinking whiskey when I bought two electric organs last weekend. And I almost never get bored enough to go out into the garden, cover myself with dirt, and pretend I am a carrot.

These are things I want to get clear before we go any further. Of course, some of you have better things to do than fool around with Facebook. If you are one of these, then you don’t need my explanation.

However, now that I’ve started it I’m going to explain it to you anyhow.

I actually did buy those organs: two beautiful, very heavy, full of tricks electric organs at an extremely reasonable price. I got them from Janet and Bobby Ratliff at Big Daddy’s Flea Market. They work perfectly. They were delivered Monday. We put the smaller one in the dining room at Cedar Lake Nursing Home, and the larger, fancier one in the big assembly room in the old nursing home. Around the Town: Catching Up ON the Bartlett House

There are some things I’ve been meaning to talk about, but I’d been waiting till I got a plan. Well, I haven’t got a plan yet, but I guess I should talk to you about it anyhow.

First off, the Bartlett House, and our plans to fix the porch with the money we raised with the “O’Keeffe!” play, Christi Barrett’s generous art classes, and the wonderful reception at the Stewarts’ home. What’s happened there? Actually nothing. We raised right at $4,000, which is safe and sound in the bank, and JoAnn Surls is sitting on the checkbook. Thankfully, not a single dime of the money will be spent on other renovations, as we recently got our roof fixed with the assistance of one of the best Denver commercial roofing companies. The person we thought could fix the porch for us is no longer available, and as far as we can tell, nobody else will touch it for twice that price. So, that is one problem. The other problem is getting our heads together to figure out what the next step is. You see, the Malakoff Area Garden Club has only 5 or 6 active members, and while our small group has made some big things happen in the past, this summer every single one of them has either been sick, disabled, or had other pressing matters to deal with.

I know, I’m the one who was doing the promoting of all this, and promising we’d run right over with the money, plunk it down, and start renovating the Bartlett House. But just as soon as the play was behind us, I checked in to the hospital and got my knee replaced. I didn’t think that would be that big of a deal, and my knee is doing wonderful, but the anesthetics and I guess the shock to my system as well, just threw me for a loop. My brain has been operating in fits and starts since then. I thought I had done my part when I got the play handled, but I didn’t count on the fact that different things were throwing each of our other members for a loop also.
