The Pride of Malakoff sent 17 students to participate in the UIL Region 3 Music Solo and Ensemble contest this weekend in Mesquite.

There are varying difficulties of musical selections for soloists and for small ensembles. Class two and three musical literature are generally used for 9th through 11th grade musicians, while Class one literature is catered more toward seniors and college level players. Jones Wins Eustace Polar Bear Golf Tournament

Alexis was a Regional Qualifier last year in golf and started off great this year with a Championship Win at the first Tournament. Alexis shot a 96 at Pinnacle to take the win. Malakoff Elementary Celebrates Blue Ribbon Nomination

Monday afternoon there was a reception in the Malakoff Elementary library to celebrate the school’s nomination as a Blue Ribbon School.

I wrote about the nomination last week. MES was one of 26 public schools in Texas nominated for the recognition and the only school in Henderson County.

Monday, Superintendent Randy Perry told the gathered teachers and administrators, “What you’ve accomplished is extraordinary, and the way that its been done is through the hard work of the people in this room. … I appreciate your hard work, I appreciate the leadership that Mr. Snow has shown, not only in this past year but in the last several years.”

Principal Ronny Snow also spoke, sometimes emotionally.

“This means we’ve reached a pinnacle,” he said. “There are going to be thousands and thousands and thousands of educators that will go through their whole career and never reach this pinnacle.” Continue reading “Malakoff Elementary Celebrates Blue Ribbon Nomination”

Malakoff UIL Film Team Advances to Second Round

The Malakoff High School UIL film team has made it to the second round of judging with the short film, “The Daydreamer.” The film is one of 43 that has advanced to the second round in the Division 1 Narrative section.

The film features Todd Johnson, a high school student that has vivid day dreams. In this film, Todd is always just one step away from being noticed by his true love, Riley.

“We wanted to make a character that was likeable and a story that was relatable,” said Clay Gaddis, the director of the film, “So I played around with some ideas and then one came to me during school one day.” Continue reading “Malakoff UIL Film Team Advances to Second Round”

Malakoff Elementary Nominated for Blue Ribbon Recognition

MESThe Texas Education Agency announced Thursday that Malakoff Elementary School has been nominated for national 2015 Blue Ribbon Schools recognition.

MES was one of 26 public schools in Texas nominated for the recognition and the only school in Henderson County.

Founded in 1982, Blue Ribbon Schools is a U.S. Department of Education program that recognizes public and private elementary, middle and high schools where students perform at very high levels. Continue reading “Malakoff Elementary Nominated for Blue Ribbon Recognition”
