Malakoff Honors A Fellow Tiger

The City of Malakoff honored David and Brenda Tapley with a silent salute Friday as the couple’s funeral procession came through town. The Tapleys were killed in the tornado that ripped through Van last Sunday night.

The Tapleys were laid to rest in Malakoff Cemetery Friday. David Tapley was a graduate of Malakoff High School, where he was an All-County football player. Mr. Tapley retired as a lieutenant from the Garland Police Department after 32 years and Mrs. Tapley was a school teacher.

Students from Malakoff ISD lined the route in silence, either holding a flag or with their hand over their heart, as the funeral procession drove past.

Elementary School Principal Ronny Snow, who is also a longtime peace officer, said the students were showing their respect for a fellow Tiger and Mr. Tapley’s service as a police officer.

Many area residents joined the students in their vigil.
