Thoughtful, caring, God loving, and strong are only a few of the qualities that Malakoff Band Director Chad Bentley and his wife, Malakoff Theatre teacher Jessica, possess. They are now opening their arms to take in a child through adoption and need help with the expenses.

Chad Bentley posted on Facebook:

Good morning Facebook friends, seven years ago today was a very beautiful and special day in my life. I made the best decision of my life to start a family with my lovely wife Jess and our son Sonny. I couldn’t be happier even if I had another lifetime to choose a bride and son.

Today, seven years later, we have reached another milestone in our life together. After being open to children our entire marriage and going through surgeries, treatments, medicines, and doctors to seek an end to our infertility issues, we have placed it all in God’s loving hands. Through prayer and acceptance of God’s divine Will we have decided to adopt a child to bring into our family. We wait with open arms for this baby to come into our life, and ask for your continued prayers and if you find it in your hearts, please take a look at our charity page, forward it to friends, and help in any way you see fit.

Jess and I know that we have the best friends this world can offer and we thank you for any and all help you can offer. God bless you and we love you all!

Around the Town: Roy Clay Buys Malakoff Trading Post

I had a wonderful surprise this week. Ok, first let me tell you about my problem, then I’ll tell you my good news.

My problem is, I didn’t give a lot of forethought as to where I put my house. Some of you may know that I live in a house that I used to visit as a kid when it belonged to the Sheppard family, and which later passed on to the Conditt family. Six or seven years ago I bought it for a song, moved it to my part of the Sims family farm and paid way too much money to turn it into what my daughter Liz calls my Barbie Doll farm house. I had always wanted a little house in the woods, so I took great pains to get it nestled among trees, kind of behind a little hill. It never occurred to me to consider where water runs when it rains, or how hard it would be to deal with the sand it leaves behind. I never meant to have so many dogs, or that they could bring in so many pounds of that sand so often. It is awful. Grass won’t grow, small gravel and crushed granite gets washed away. Sand remains. Or maybe it is just that more sand gets washed in. I got desperate. I went to Malakoff Trading Post and talked to Keith Butler about river rock. I’d just put river rock all over the place with some flagstone paths here and there. He said he thought it would work and quoted me a great price. By the way, he told me, we are selling the place. I hated to hear that, but figured I’d better hurry up and get my rocks, since the next owner might not give me such a good deal. So Saturday morning I popped in there with one last set of questions for Keith. Continue reading “Around the Town: Roy Clay Buys Malakoff Trading Post”

Concussions, tears, and vomit are the first things that come to my mind when I think of this week. To go back to the same building, see the same instructors, and see the same schedule being played out in front of me took me far back in time (about a year ago), when I myself was wearing a matching uniform and trying not to pass out from working too hard and a lack of sleep. No, I am not talking about some sick camp that puts young girls through the wringer, I am referring to cheer camp. Continue reading “A Mascot Sees Cheer Camp Through New Eyes”

Around the Town: Bragging On The Grandkids

Overall, it is probably to the reader’s advantage that I am not a very good grandmother. If I were one of those wonderful women who are really wrapped up in their grandkids’ lives, I probably wouldn’t write about anything else here. And nobody wants to hear THAT much about somebody else’s grandkids.

I won’t say I haven’t used this column to brag on my grandkids a few times during the years, but only when they do something really outstanding. Of course, being my grandkids, they are do a lot of outstanding things all the time. I just don’t tell you most of them.

But this week I have to do some bragging. Continue reading “Around the Town: Bragging On The Grandkids”
