Brownsboro man sentenced to 75 years for shooting at Sheriff’s deputy

On Friday, September 23, Jamie Lawrence Meador, 31 of Brownsboro, was sentenced to 75 years in prison for a March 2015 shootout with Henderson County deputies at a residence on CR 4305 near Coffee City. Meador was seriously injured in the shootout. Neither of the deputies was wounded.

Meador was sentenced to the 75 years for Aggravated Assault of a Peace Officer, and also sentenced to four other 20 year sentences for three counts of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and one count of evading arrest with a motor vehicle.

Meador pled guilty to the charges earlier this year and elected to allow Judge Dan Moore of the 173rd Judicial District Court set sentencing after a hearing. Meador was facing a punishment range of 15-99 years or life for the Aggravated Assault and up to 20 years each for the unlawful possession cases and evading arrest case.

Mesquite man sentenced to 40 years for sexual assault

On Friday, September 2, Charles Dale Stegall, 36, formerly of Mesquite, was sentenced to 40 years in prison for five counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child. Stegall pled guilty to the five counts on June 29. He remained in the Henderson County Jail after his guilty plea while awaiting a sentencing hearing.

Assistant District Attorney Nancy Rumar prosecuted the case on behalf of Scott McKee’s District Attorney’s Office. Stegall was sentenced in the 173rd Judicial District Court by Judge Dan Moore after the day-long sentencing hearing.

Judge says too many people fail to show for jury duty

It's just one of the duties of being a citizen like military duty

Did you know that the right to “Trial by Jury” is listed among the usurpations by King George in the Declaration of Independence? The right to bear arms isn’t in there and neither are any religious issues — but the right to a jury was recorded as one of the reasons for the Revolution.
