Athens man gets 9 years on drug charge

A Henderson County jury sentenced an Athens man to nine years in the Texas Department of Corrections, Institutional Division on April 25, 2018. Dustin Edward Klendworth, age 29, was arrested on March 13 of last year by the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office.

While searching for a dark-colored Ford Mustang that was reportedly connected to a recent stabbing at a nearby game room, Chief Ricky Smith of the Trinidad Police Department located a vehicle matching that description. After initiating a traffic stop, Klendworth was found to be a passenger in the Mustang.

Mark Carson indicted for Capital Murder of infant

The Henderson County Grand Jury returned an indictment for Capital Murder against 26-year-old Mark Carson for the death of a child under 10.
Carson is accused of intentionally or knowingly causing the death of his girlfriend’s 11-month-old baby “by a manner and means unknown to the Grand Jury.” He was arrested on January 25, 2018 after a three-month investigation into the death of the child.

Clemons sentenced to 25 years

Zackary Ryan Clemons, age 39, was sentenced to 25 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice on March 1, 2018, for Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver. Clemons was found guilty by a Henderson County jury following four days of testimony.

Clemons was arrested by Henderson County Sheriff’s Deputy Megan Hogan on June 27, 2017. Clemons had just left a known drug house in the Westwood Beach Subdivision in Chandler when Deputy Hogan observed Clemons’ SUV run a stop sign. Deputy Hogan initiated her overhead lights to conduct a traffic stop. Clemons continued driving, dropping a bag of methamphetamine outside his car window, before eventually stopping for the deputy.
