Three in Athens Indicted in Prescription Drug Smuggling Ring

The Department of Justice announced today that three Athens, Texas, residents have been indicted on charges associated with their alleged smuggling of imitation, unapproved, and misbranded prescription drugs from China.

Wanda Hollis, 63, Tom Giddens, 57, and Catherine Nix, 41, were each charged with one felony count of conspiracy to smuggle merchandise into the United States, seven counts of causing the introduction of misbranded drugs into interstate commerce with the intent to defraud or mislead, seven counts of smuggling and one count of tampering with a witness. Giddens was also charged with two additional counts of tampering and Nix was charged with one additional tampering count. The defendants were also charged with misdemeanor counts of causing misbranded imitation drugs to be introduced into interstate commerce. Nix was arrested on October 2 in Athens. Grand Jury Report: Tennison Indicted for Murder

Henderson County District Attorney’s Office

Clyde Jason Tennison, 50, was indicted last for Murder in connection with the death of his girlfriend, Deborah Denise Allen, on Aug. 2.

Tennison originally told investigators that Allen committed suicide, however, preliminary autopsy findings revealed that Allen had blunt force trauma, lacerations and stab wounds to her face and neck areas that were inconsistent with suicide.

Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrests

On Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at approximately 2:56 a.m., Henderson County Sheriff‘s Office Deputy Brian Huckabee along with Deputy Wayne Nutt, conducted a traffic stop for a traffic violation on US Highway 175 at the intersection of Richardson Road near Athens. Ashley Grooms of Gun Barrel City was identified as the driver and Jerroid Miller as a passenger. Deputy Huckabee conducted a search of the vehicle and located multiple items of narcotic paraphernalia, suspected marijuana and suspected methamphetamines.
