Malakoff man gets 18 years for meth

Joshua Dean Turcola, 31, of Malakoff, was sentenced Monday to 18 years in prison for Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver. He was sentenced by 3rd Judicial District Court Judge, Mark Calhoon after pleading guilty to the charge.

District Attorney Scott McKee and 1st Assistant Mark Hall prosecuted the case.

Turcola was indicted by a Henderson County Grand Jury based on a June, 2014 traffic stop by Trooper Jacob Lutz who was assisted by Henderson County Sheriff’s Deputy Brad Beddingfield, Trooper Samuel Nowell and Highway Patrol Sergeant Brian Hemati.

Appeals court upholds four life sentences for Lusk

Last month, the Twelfth Court of Appeals in Tyler affirmed Danny Ray Lusk’s convictions of four counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child and one count of Indecency with a Child by Contact. Lusk will serve four life sentences and a 20 year sentence.

Lusk, 39, formerly of Athens, was indicted by a Henderson County Grand Jury in September 2011 after an investigation into the aggravated sexual assault and indecency with two children.

Eustace woman sentenced to 10 years for meth

Monica Worthy, 33, of Eustace, was sentenced last week to 10 years in prison for Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver. 3rd Judicial District Court Judge, Mark Calhoon sentenced Worthy after pleading guilty to the charge.

District Attorney Scott McKee and 1st Assistant Mark Hall prosecuted the case.

Worthy was indicted by a Henderson County Grand Jury based on a July 2015 investigation and search warrant executed by the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office.

Sexual Assault of Child conviction affirmed by appellate court

Last Week, the Twelfth Court of Appeals in Tyler affirmed Christopher Swofford’s convictions for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, Indecency with a Child by Contact, and Indecency with a Child by Exposure. Swofford alleged 14 points of appeal which were all denied.

The response to Swofford’s appeal was litigated by Assistant District Attorney Justin Weiner. The original trial lasted six days back in November 2013. Weiner and Nancy Rumar prosecuted the case on behalf of Scott McKee’s District Attorney’s Office.
