GBC Fire Department increases capability to fight wildland fires

The Gun Barrel City Fire Department purchased a new slip-on unit with a $16,256 grant from Texas A&M Forest Service. According to Fire Chief Joseph Lindaman, they did not have to wait long to put the unit into service. The fire department has already used the new slip-on unit to contain three grass fires.
Chief Lindaman said, “The unit is currently on one of our older vehicles but we will soon transfer it to a new truck that weighs less. The combination of the lighter truck and slip-on unit will give us the ability to get off road into softer ground to fight fires in pastures and farmland.”

GBC council approves EDC loan for GBC Medial Associates

The Gun Barrel City Council last week voted unanimously to approve an Economic Development Corporation project for GBC Medical Associates.
GBC Medical Associates, owned by Jerry and Mary Moody, will be a medical facility that provides services with extended hours, similar to an urgent care walk-in site. However, it will be of a higher quality service than you would expect to find at an urgent care location, according to Mary Moody, NP.
Until now, they were running on Citrus Loans without having to keep a collateral. But now, GBC Medical Associates will be receiving a financed loan from the GBCEDC to assist in build-out and purchase of needed medical equipment.

GBC moving toward skate park

The Gun Barrel City Economic Development Corporation, City of Gun Barrel City, and SPA Skate Parks of Austin, Texas shook hands and took the first step towards the building of the city’s new skate park.

GBC ready for National Night Out

On Tuesday, Oct. 6, from 6-8 p.m., Gun Barrel City will welcome all of its neighborhoods throughout the city to join forces with thousands of other communities nationwide for the 32nd Annual National Night Out crime and drug prevention event. According to Linda Rankin, National Night Out Local Chairman, this year the Gun Barrel City Property Owners Associations from several neighborhoods will be on hand at Gun Barrel City Park Pavilion to discuss their neighborhood crime problems and assist the citizens in finding out what is going on in their part of the community. Suggestions on how to fight crime will be a key topic.
From 6-8 p.m. on Oct. 6, residents in neighborhoods throughout Gun Barrel City are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police.
