A music video by Athens residents Sloane and Felix Lenz is getting some love in the New York City blog for The Deli, a magazine devoted to emerging NYC bands and visual artists.

The video is for the single “Old Winds” from Brooklyn singer/songwriter Carrie Ashley Hill’s upcoming album “Orion, Low in the Sky.”

The Deli praises the video for its “inventive, shape-shifting visuals.”

This is not the first time Sloane and Felix — the Lenz Twinz — have made noise in the art world. Earlier this year, the pair were featured in the Austin blog Timbre.

The Lenz Twinz run music, style and culture blog ALLUMER.

They are the son and daughter of Athens residents Catherine and Michael Lenz.

Auditions set for ‘The Christmas Bus’

HCPAC logoPress release

The Henderson County Performing Arts Center is holding open auditions for the youth production “The Christmas Bus.” Parts are available for girls and boys between the ages of 6 years and 8th grade. No preparation or experience is necessary. Performance dates are Dec. 4 through 12 . Auditions will be held in the Main Stage Auditorium from 6-7:30 p.m., Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 12 and 13 at 400 Gibson Rd. in Athens.

It’s Christmas Eve and Mrs. Frump, the director of the Peaceful Valley Orphanage, is planning what she believes will be the most special Christmas ever for her kids. She’s ‘borrowed’ an old bus and arranged for each child to spend Christmas with a family in the area. The only problem is she hasn’t told the Busybodies on the Orphanage Board of Trustees, who believe Frump has gotten too old and soft to handle the rowdy kids at Peaceful Valley. With the help of teenage Thomas, the oldest of the orphans and her trusty right-hand man, Frump sets off to deliver the kids – pursued by the suspicious Sheriff and the Busybodies. It’s an adventuresome ride culminating in a Christmas even more special than Frump could have ever imagined.

This play is directed by Marcia Colbert and sponsored by Hydraulic Power Services and The Arts Angels. For more information call 903-675-3908.

‘9 to 5: The Musical’ opens at HCPAC

9-to-5Press release

Many of us remember the Hollywood mega-hit, 9 to 5, starring Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and Lilly Tomlin. Now Henderson County Performing Arts Center is bringing the musical version of the movie to life on their stage with all your favorite local actors.

It’s 1979, the Rolodex era, when women were secretaries not administrative assistants and certainly not CEO’s. The Good Old Boys Club ran the business world and women were objects to be ogled. Pushed to the boiling point by their boss, three female co-workers concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot. They conspire to take control of their company and learn there’s nothing they can’t do – even in a man’s world. This is a hilarious story of friendship and revenge. Outrageous, thought-provoking and even a little romantic, it’s about teaming up and taking care of business. Continue reading “‘9 to 5: The Musical’ opens at HCPAC”
