South Athens and Bel Air elementary schools participated Wednesday in World Read Aloud Day. At South Athens, nearly 30 “celebrity readers” from across the community read their favorite books to students. Pictured here is Athens ISD Superintendent Blake Stiles, accompanied by his dog, Boomer. Stiles read the book “Good Boy, Fergus!” to Mandee Evans’ third-grade class and explained that his dog is “a lot like Fergus.” World Read Aloud Day is designed to motivate adults and children to celebrate the power and importance of reading.
