Square Foot Gardening presentation scheduled

Henderson County Master Gardener Association (HCMGA) will host HCMGA intern Susan Skommesa as she presents “Square Foot Gardening” on Tuesday, April 17, 5:30 p.m. at the Clint W Murchison Memorial Library, 121 S. Prairieville, Athens. This presentation is part of the “Learn at the Library” series offered by HCMGA on the third Tuesday of each month.

AMS treble choir wins Sweepstakes

The Athens Middle School Treble Choir won the much-heralded Sweepstakes Award by earning perfect scores at the Middle School UIL Concert and Sight Reading Competition in Carthage on April 5. The students received all perfect scores on both portions of the event. “These ladies have been working and perfecting three pieces of music since January and have been practicing their sight reading skills in class every day since the beginning of the year,” said AMS Choir Director Sarah Smith. Malakoff students inducted into National Honor Society

Malakoff High School’s National Honor Society held its annual induction ceremony on Monday, March 26, 2018. President Cheyenne Robinson, along with officers Trinity Beck, Alyssa Taylor, and Eden White, as well as current members Abby Burns and Ari Tart, welcomed some of the best and brightest students of Malakoff High School into the National Honor Society.

Congratulations, Athens High School Math Teams!

Via the Athens ISD Facebook Page: ???Athens High School’s math teams once again dominated in district competition. The number sense, calculator applications, and general math teams each took first place at Wednesday’s UIL District 18-4A Academic Meet hosted at Athens High School. In number sense, Ideal Ademaj was first, Aryn Rodriguez was second, Ale Pedroza was third, and Dylan Lindsey was sixth. In calculator, Jacob Moore was first, Pedroza was third, Yuvia Leon was fourth, and Ademaj was fifth. In general math, Moore was first, Ademaj second, Rodriguez third, and Leon fifth. All six competitors qualified for the regional meet to be held in Huntsville April 14. Pictured (from left) are Lindsey, Leon, Moore, Pedroza and Ademaj. Well done!
