Eustace High School cheerleaders competed in the first UIL state spirit competition in Arlington on Jan. 13. After completing the preliminary rounds of their fight song, band dance and crowd leading cheer, the cheerleaders moved on to the finals. During finals, they perform all three prelim sections together in one performance with an additional situational chant. Eustace placed 6th overall in Class 3A going up against 44 other teams in state.

“This team practiced many long hours and represented their school with pride, poise, discipline and class. We are proud of each and every one of them.”

Eustace was the only team to make finals and place in the top 10 from East Texas.

AISD happy with interest rate on bonds

A group of Athens ISD leaders and support staff gather Thursday to view online the results of a competitive sale of the bonds approved by voters in November. R.W. Baird & Company was the lowest of seven bidders, offering to buy the $59.9 million bond package at an average interest rate of 3.07 percent.

“We’re extremely pleased and excited with this very favorable outcome,” said Chief Financial Officer Randy Jones.

The positive outcome is a combined result of AISD’s “A+” credit rating and a 15-year low in the municipal bond market. The trustees are expected to accept the winning bid at Thursday night’s board meeting. The anticipated closing date, when funds will become available, is Feb. 18.
