Athens ISD press release
The Athens Public Education Foundation sponsored the Superintendent Scholars Banquet Friday, April 15.
“This outstanding accomplishment demonstrates the pride, motivation and self-discipline required for academic excellence,” said APEF Special Events Coordinator BJ Davies.
Very few students are able to qualify as a Superintendent Scholar all four years of high school, and, in fact, this year there was only one: Jonathan Bywaters. As a four-year scholar, Bywaters was asked to select an individual within the district who had a profoundly positive impact on him. He chose Athens High School math and French teacher Ken Walker.
“He has taught me and encouraged me from the very beginning,” said Bywaters. Superintendent Scholars are selected for their outstanding academic achievements: a 95 or higher in all of their courses (85 or higher in advanced academic and dual credit courses).
