Songs of Youth: Local choirs perform at music festival

Choirs from South Athens Elementary (pictured), Bel Air Elementary and Central Athens Elementary were among several that performed Tuesday morning at the East Texas Music Festival, held at the Athens High School auditorium. The annual event is sponsored by the Henderson County Arts Council and spearheaded by South Athens Choir Director Barbara Railsback. Retired School Personnel Association present scholarships

The Henderson County Retired School Personnel Association presented its scholarship winners for 2016 recently. Each year HCRSPA gives $500 scholarships to seniors in Henderson County who will be going into education. The recipients this year include Kaitlyn Smith and Nathaniel Wright from Brownsboro High School and Zane Koskelin from Mabank High School. Nathaniel Wright also received a $500 scholarship from TVCC, which was presented by Kristen Bennett, CFRE, Vice President of Institutional Advancement and Executive Director of the TVCC Foundation. AISD students graduate TVCC

Athens ISD’s Pinnacle Early College High School program graduated 28 students in the 2015-16 school year with associates’ of liberal arts degrees. Twenty-six (pictured) walked the stage at Trinity Valley Community College on Friday. The other two students graduated in December, and another four students earned workforce certificates. These same students will graduate with their high school diplomas Friday, June 3. (Toni Garrard Clay/AISD)
