Leland Hand, the Winona High School principal, has been named the lone finalist for the the superintendent’s position at Cross Roads ISD. A 21-day waiting period is required by state law before a lone finalist can be hired.
The move came during a special school board meeting last night.
“I am extremely excited about being a part of the great community in Cross Roads,” said Hand. “The members of the school board are proud of what Cross Roads stands for and they are aspiring for great things in the future. My goal is that we continue to transition into the 21st Century as together we present opportunities for our students to be successful. I am aware that Cross Roads ISD has a rich tradition in academics, athletics and FFA. Again, I am personally excited about this opportunity and look forward to establishing life long relationships with the community members of Cross Roads ISD.”
Hand will replace Clay Tompkins, who will resign effective at the end of the summer, but he will remain with the school district in an advisory role to help the new superintendent and the school board through the 2013-2014 school year. Tompkins will officially retire in August 2014.
