Third-grade math and science teacher Jeannie Turbyfill is Bel Air Elementary’s Teacher of the Month. Mrs. Turbyfill is a 1998 graduate of Athens High School, where she was a drill team member all four years. She has two children: a sixth grader and a high school sophomore. Athens Middle School Teacher of the Month
Eighth-grade history teacher Lanita Boening is Athens Middle School’s teacher of the month. She was raised in Athens and moved back with her family 13 years ago. Her two grown children graduated from AHS. Mrs. Boening has been a teacher for 16 years. The best part? “Getting to know some really great students and co-workers,” she said. (AISD Photo)
Texas A&M Visits ACPA

ACPA Starts Swim Team, Plans Oct. 18 Meet in Athens

Athens Christian Preparatory Academy recently hosted the first ever Texas Christian Athletic League (TCAL) swim meet at the Cain Center. ACPA has been instrumental in lobbying for the sport to be adopted under the league’s umbrella. The TCAL is a state-wide league that represents schools from all over Texas.
ACPA Athletic Director, Shawn SanMiguel, has coordinated efforts with TCAL to launch the new program.

Music Ace Maestros
Julissa Luna (left), Baylee Hurd and Jorien Ray are among 20 third-graders at South Athens Elementary who arrive at school at 7:15 Monday through Friday to participate in the Music Ace Maestro program before regular classes begin. Under the direction of fine arts teacher Barbara Railsback, the program combines music theory lessons and challenging-but-fun games that introduce children to music.
