Athens ISD Receives Highest Rating Possible for ‘Financial Integrity’

Athens ISD Chief Financial Officer Randy Jones informed board members at Monday night’s AISD Board of Trustees meeting that the district once again received a “superior” rating in a report by the Texas Education Agency Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas. A superior rating is the highest that can be awarded. The 2013-2014 rating was based on the 2012-2013 school year data. The maximum score possible is a 70, and the district scored a 68. AHS Senior Chris Prox Honored

ProxAthens High School senior Chris Prox scored in the top 3 percent of all African-American students who took the PSAT. He is considered an outstanding participant in the 2015 National Achievement Scholarship Program. Chris is also an AP Scholar and is currently ranked first academically in the senior class. Kirk Has a Desire to Serve Those in Need

Athens ISD School Board member Ginger Kirk has a heart for people in need, which is evident in the choices she has made.

Kirk grew up in Athens and graduated from Athens High School on a Friday night in 1972. By Sunday afternoon, she was at Texas Women’s University ready to go to work toward earning a degree in nursing.

“My friends made fun of me for choosing to go to an all-girl school. So I thought I’d go to TWU in the summer just to see if I liked it,” said Kirk. “I absolutely fell in love with it.” Continue reading “Kirk Has a Desire to Serve Those in Need”

Young Cross Roads Band Competes at Mesquite

The Cross Roads Bobcat Band traveled to Mesquite Memorial Stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 22, to compete in the Texas University Interscholastic League Music Region 3 Marching Contest.

The Bobcat Band scored a “third division” rating from the UIL judges at the contest. Although the band did not receive the coveted “first division” rating, the band is proud of their performance and results. Those students marching in the band consisted of 30 students ranging from the 8th grade to 11th grade. However, 63 percent of the students are only in the 8th or 9th grade.
