Henderson County Under A Flash Flood Watch

The National Weather Service has placed most of North Texas, including Henderson County, under a Flash Flood Watch until Wednesday evening. Here is the bulletin:

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH IS IN EFFECT TODAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY ACROSS ALL OF NORTH TEXAS. THE WATCH IS IN EFFECT BEGINNING THIS MORNING ACROSS AREAS GENERALLY SOUTH OF THE INTERSTATE 20 CORRIDOR…THEN ACROSS THE ENTIRE REGION THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH WEDNESDAY…

.THE GROUND REMAINS SATURATED FROM HEAVY RAINS OVER THE PAST SEVERAL DAYS. SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED ACROSS MUCH OF THE AREA TODAY AND WEDNESDAY…AS MOIST AIR MOVES
IN FROM THE SOUTH AND AN UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE APPROACHES FROM THE WEST. ANY LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN THAT OCCURS WILL CREATE ADDITIONAL FLOODING CONCERNS TODAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY.

Black History Committee Holds Scholarship Banquet

On Saturday, February 28, the Henderson County Black History Committee held its annual scholarship banquet at the Malakoff Community/Senior Center, honoring 16 scholarship recipients from around Henderson County.

TxDOT Update – Week of March 2

Texas Department of Transportation maintenance crews in Athens this week are making edge repairs on FM 607 from Loop 60 to FM 317, and addressing drainage issues at various locations throughout the county. Flaggers will provide traffic control in these work zones.

Elsewhere, Big Creek Construction, the contractor for the FM 317 widening project, is dressing slopes and conduct seeding on this job which stretches from FM 314 to FM 607. No work is planned this week.

The Henderson County HELP Center – Child Advocacy Center Earns National Accreditation

ATHENS – The Henderson County HELP Center has been awarded the National Accreditation for Children’s Advocacy Centers by the National Children’s Alliance following an extensive application and site review process. Accreditation is the highest level of membership with National Children’s Alliance and denotes excellence in service provision. As an accredited Children’s Advocacy Center, Henderson County HELP Center has been recognized for providing Children’s Advocacy Centers (CACs) services and Multidisciplinary Teams (MDTs) with the resources they need to consistently offer unique and vital services to child victims of abuse and their families; and for serving as the voice for all CACs in Texas.

The Henderson County HELP Centers Children’s Advocacy Center has been assisting children of abuse and neglect since 1999 and was accredited in 2001 with the Children’s Advocacy Centers of Texas. The Center helps support the efforts of 14 law enforcement agencies, Child Protractive Services and the County and District Attorneys’ Offices with supportive services for children that suffer the most horrendous crimes of abuse and neglect.
