Shane Renberg is getting tired of finding trash.

Renberg is the Henderson County Fire Marshal and his office fields between three and 10 calls every week for illegal dumping.

“We really want to put a stop to this in the county,” he said. “I don’t know about you, but I’ve lived in this county for a long time and I get tired of driving down the road and seeing this trash dumped everywhere that just spreads all over the county.” Continue reading “Illegal dumping is a big problem in Henderson County”

Henderson County burn ban set

Henderson County Commissioner’s Court set a burn ban this morning. The burn ban is set to last 28 days.

Fire Marshal Shane Renberg told commissioners the county’s average Keetch-Byram Drought Index score was 690, with a high of 712 on the west end. The KBDI is a measure of moisture in the soil, and a burn ban is recommended when the KBDI score is above 575.

Renberg said the KBDI is forecast to go “well over 700 in the next couple of weeks.”

He also told the commissioners that although the driest areas were on the west end of the county, that the entire county is above 600.

Ignoring the burn ban is a Class C misdemeanor, punishable by a fine up to $500.

TxDOT projects for the Week of Aug. 10

txdotIt looks like TxDOT is going to be very busy in Henderson County this week. Here is a rundown of scheduled projects, according to the agency:

– TxDOT Maintenance is performing overlay operations on SH 198 near FM 316 this week. A second crew is repairing base failures on FM 316 going north between US 175 and FM 1861. Expect lane closures with flaggers providing traffic control.

– TxDOT contractor, Striping Technology, Inc., will have a crew adding striping on FM 2709 Henderson County as part of the district-wide safety project to add centerline rumble strips. Expect lane closures. Continue reading “TxDOT projects for the Week of Aug. 10”

Hensarling Schedules Town Hall Meeting in Athens

Congressman Jeb Hensarling will be hosting a Town Hall Meeting and Legislative Update 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6 at the Henderson County Senior Citizens Center in Athens (3356 Highway 31 East). In a press release Hensarling said the goal of the meeting is “to give an update on actions taken by the House of Representatives and hear from the residents of Henderson County about the issues that are important to them.”
